Meet the Candidates

Voting for the SBA Presidential Elections starts today, March 30, and ends at 5pm on
Wednesday, April 1.
Voting procedure: Voting takes place on Campus Cruiser. When you sign on, select the
SBA Voting Tab, click on Voting Ballot, chose your candidate, and click submit. Once
you click submit you will not be able to change your vote. Please reach out to the Elections
chair Callie Grossman at cgrossman@suffolk.edu with any questions about this.
Before you vote, take the time to read about the candidates, watch the speeches, which can be
found under the Election tab on the website, and go meet the candidates up on the fourth
floor. In addition, to see how much the SBA can accomplish for the student body, see issue 14,
the Fall Semester Report, which can be found by clicking on the show me more tab below.
This year the SBA has roughly doubled the number of events, has brought an academic and
professional focus back to the SBA, and has created new communication channels through a
combination of the brand new SBA website, Facebook page, Twitter account, and this
newsletter. Additionally, we have represented every issue to the deans and administration, and
we have worked tirelessly from day one to provide the greatest possible student government.
Read below to learn about the candidates for next years SBA President and Vice President.

There are three tickets: Patrick Shine and Monica Mohan, Sam Matson and Courtney Fears,
and Kelley Sweetser and Brendan Murphy.

Kelley Sweetser and Brendan Murphy

Kelley Sweetser and Brendan Murphy absolutely love Suffolk Law: that is why they are
committed to amplifying the Suffolk brand through maximizing YOUR Suffolk Law
experience!
Hi everyone! My name is Kelley Sweetser and I am running for SBA president. I am running with
Brendan Murphy who is running for Vice President. I was born and raised right outside Boston
and graduated from UMass-Amherst. I currently live in Southie and am a 2nd year day student,
section D! I am also the current treasurer of the SBA. I would love to get your vote!
Hey guys, my name is Brendan Murphy. I grew up on Cape Cod, graduated from UMass, and
now I live in Somerville and go to Suffolk Law at night. I'm a microbiologist during the day, biding
my time playing with bacteria. I came to Suffolk to study patent law. I love poker, fishing, and
cooking. I'd love to get your vote!
Community: Suffolk is the largest law school in the state, so naturally that means we have the
largest network of lawyers in the law community. One of the pillars of our campaign is reaching
out to alumni and building connections with recent graduates and lawyers who have been out
practicing for 1, 5, 10, 20 years!
Collaboration: Boston's home to many other law schools and it is important that we start building
these relationships now. This speaks to our overarching theme of networking for job opportunities.
Collaborating with other schools can be a key to opening doors ripe with legal career opportunities
for students like us.
Cohesiveness: It is vital to the success of the SBA to have a great working relationship between the
SBA and administration. We want to work with the administration and have their support behind
the SBA. This will be incredibly beneficial to the student body because it will allow the SBA to
accomplish its goal in a faster and more direct way, which means more results and faster results.
Vote Sweetser & Murphy!

Patrick Shine and Monica Mohan

Patrick Shine, 2L day student seeking a business/corporate finance

concentration, have logged over 200 hours of pro bono work, and have
been to every Board of Governors meeting since I started at Suffolk Law.
Monica Mohan is a 3L evening student pursing a JD/MBA. She is on the
Transnational Law Review, and an active board member of the South
Asian Law Student Association. Both of us are also long time
ambassadors for the admissions office. Together we came up with a
platform that is not exclusive but is a start to what we are determined to
accomplish.
Platform: We would like to make the student fees that run the SBA stretch
to add more events for student involvement; facilitate transparency
between the University, Deans Suite and the Law Students; and create an
ad hoc committee to work with the Admissions Office in reaching out to
the best students to attend Suffolk University Law School.

What type of attorney did you want to be upon entering Suffolk Law?
I knew I wanted to do something within corporate practice (particularly in light of being part of the

Probably some of the pro bono work in which I have participated.
Who is your favorite Supreme Court Justice, living or deceased? Story.
Any interview tips?
Be yourself and dont worry if an interview results in focusing on topics you did not expect. Many
interviewers are most interested in getting to know you and determining whether you would be a
good fit for their firm.
One piece of advice?
If possible, seek out opportunities in law school that further your future practice interests so that
you have something concrete to talk about in interviews that might differentiate you from other
