renovations about to begin
election day
Village of Kohler voters
will take to the polls on
Tuesday, April 7 to cast
their ballot for a number of
important seats in the Village of Kohler, Sheboygan
County and the state. A
state referendum will also
be on the ballot.
For Justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, incumbent Ann
Walsh
Bradley is seeking her third
10-year term and will be
challenged by James P.
Daley, who has been the
presiding judge of the
Rock County Circuit Court
since 1989, and also the
chief judge of Wisconsin's
5th Judicial District.
For Sheboygan County
Circuit Court, Branch 1
Judge, incumbent L. Edward Stengel will run unopposed.
For Sheboygan County
Circuit Court, Branch 4,
Kohler resident Catherine Delahunt will challenge Rebecca Persick. Delahunt has served as
Municipal Court Judge for
Kohler/Sheboygan since 2006.
Persick has served as Sheboygan
County Court Commissioner since
2003.
Attorney Natasha Torry-Morgan
is the sole candidate on the ballot
for Kohler/Sheboygan Municipal
Judge, since Catherine Delahunt
announced she would not seek reelection for that position.
Village of Kohler President
Thomas Schnettler is running unopposed, but four candidates are
running for three positions on the
Village Board of Trustees. Incumbents Bill Kunst, Charles Keller,
and Brian Post will be challenged
by Mike Zimmermann.
Sports Core in Kohler will launch

the final and largest phase of its
five-year renovation plan beginning the week of April 27, 2015,
with completion anticipated by the
end of October.
What began in 2011 with the
lobby renovation and resurfacing
of the indoor tennis courts, continued through 2014 with upgrades of
the Pilates equipment, Performance Zone (TRX), and most recently, all new equipment and
flooring in the fitness training center. The 2015 phase includes a
comprehensive makeover of the
lower level changing areas, showers, steam rooms, and walkways.
Based on member and guest
feedback, the objective of the

lower level project is to enhance
the experience of overall wellness
throughout the rest of the Sports
Core facility. The project will culminate in a fresh, energizing
changing area where members can
renew before returning to their day.
Sustainable building materials
will be utilized wherever possible,
and energy efficient plumbing (replacing the current 1979-era
plumbing) will provide savings for
the facility.
Improvements will include replacing metal lockers in the mens
and womens changing rooms with
more and larger wood-laminate
lockers, new non-slip flooring to
replace carpet in changing rooms,

four vanity counters added to the
womens changing room, family
changing rooms upgraded to include toilets and hand showers for
kids, upgraded showers and tiles,
restroom and steam room improvements, upgrades to the common
space areas, and more.
The Sports Core operations team
plans to work closely with the renovation project team and the general contractor to ensure all
amenities and services continue
with minimal or no interruption for
the duration of the renovation. Updates will be published in future issues of The Kohler Villager.
Village volunteer fire department

seeks new members
For the Kohler School District
Board of Education, incumbent
Diane Kelly is being challenged by
Chad R. Hamilton.
A state referendum will appear
on the ballot asking voters whether
a chief justice of the state Supreme
Court shall be elected for a twoyear term by a majority of the justices then serving on the court.
Currently, the Wisconsin Constitution says seniority determines
which justice is the chief, who
serves as the lead administrator for
the state court system.
The Kohler Villager does not

Fire Department is seeking additional members to serve the community. The fire department is a
unique blend of dedicated individuals working to save lives and protect property, and also enjoy the
good fellowship and fun of each
others company. KFD welcomes
any Kohler resident, 18 years or

older, to become a member. There
are currently 26 active members
and 17 social members.
Anyone wishing to learn more
about the department and meet the
members who presently serve the
community are invited to attend informational session at the fire sta-
tion between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00

p.m. on Monday night, April 13, or
Monday night, May 11, 2015.

Kids-Only Board of Directors Shapes Dental Office Decisions

On March 21, 2015, Bullard
Childrens Dentistry held its 9th
annual Board of Directors meeting. This years board consists of
children ages 5 to 11 years old.
After taking the Oath of Office
administered by Dr. George
Bullard, this very special group
generated many creative ideas and
provided excellent feedback for
the staff at Bullard Childrens Dentistry.
Thirteen board members came
together to brainstorm on a number
of topics, including a Board of Di-
rectors-proclaimed celebration
week for our patients (Pizza Week,
LegoFest, Backwards Week
would kids clean Dr. Georges
teeth?!) and a new prize box design (motion detector box, music
playing treasure chest). The Board
also voted for their favorite flavors
of toothpaste and fluoride, and
which toys should be in the
Treasure Box.
As a special project this year,
each Board member designed and
created badges for Dr. George and
the Bullard team to wear around
the office.
The participants were selected
based on nomination letters submitted by parents. A new Board is
selected annually. Each Board
member serves for one year.

Rotary meetings
Each month, during the
school year, the Student Rotarians Committee of the
Sheboygan Downtown Rotary Club coordinates with
local high schools to identify
honor students and invite
them to attend the Clubs
weekly meetings as guests of
the club. The attending stu-
dents have a chance to meet

possible mentors from Rotary Club business and professional leaders during the

Lakers hockey team qualifies

for Wisconsin Amateur
Hockey Association State
Championship
The Sheboygan Lakers 3B hockey team
qualified for the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey
Association (WAHA) State Championship
Tournament by defeating the Waupun Warriors Squirt 3B team 10-0 at Fond du Lac's
Blue Line Family Ice Center.
The Lakers jumped out to a quick 5-0 first
period lead and never looked back. The scoring effort was led by Jacob Fox and Teague
Pilgrim, who posted hat-tricks during the
game. Owen Hayon added two goals and two
assists. Will Johnson and Dylan Videtic each
contributed with a goal.

Laker goalie Bennett Waara tallied his fifth
shut-out of the season with the aid of the Lakers solid defensive group. The Lakers defense
consisting of Austin Schuh, Carter Trilling,
Noah Fibiger, and Sierra Hendricks held the
Warriors to only 4 shots on goal. They were
the unsung heroes on the stats sheet, but provided the scoreless curtain that helped propel
the team to qualify for the WAHA State
Championship.

Prom 2015 Information
Prom 2015 is scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at the Waelderhaus

from 8:00-12:00 p.m. Music will
be from 8:00 p.m. until midnight
with the presentation of prom court
at 9:30 p.m. The professional photographer will be taking pictures
from 8:00 until 9:00 p.m. All students should plan on arriving by
no later then 8:30 p.m.
Each student who purchases a
ticket for prom will receive one
complimentary ticket to be used by
their parents or other members of
their family to view the crowning
ceremony. Due to the necessary re-
strictions on numbers in the

Waelderhaus balcony, we must ask
that parents honor this two person limit so that we dont jeopardize our ability to use this beautiful
prom facility.
Parents may begin to enter and
proceed to the balcony 15 minutes before crowning ceremony
(9:15 p.m.). House lights will be
brought up for an intermission
following the presentation of the
court and parents will be invited
down to the main floor to take
pictures. When the house lights

Board Presidents Report (Marlene Yang)
As communicated in an email to parents, the
School Board voted at its November 10 Regular Board meeting to undertake a systematic
review of the Districts current administrative
roles and responsibilities.The purpose of this
review was to understand the effectiveness
and efficiency of the Districts current structure to support the highest quality of education for our children.
The firm, Black Black Consulting was contracted to undertake this review. In mid-December, they conducted a total of 55 randomly
selected interviews of faculty, staff, parents,
students, and administration from the elementary, middle and high schools.
On January 5, Black Black Consulting presented the results to the Board. In general,
there is a positive feeling throughout the
school community: teachers enjoy working at
Kohler; parents are pleased with school performance and opportunities available for their
children; students are happy.The report highlighted, however, several areas that require
consideration.Two of these areas, in particular, require priority attention: (1) the strain
of dual administrative roles and (2) the communitys desire for more effective communications.
The Board has begun work on the first priority
area by studying the financial and organizational viability of several options that would
address the dual administrative roles. The
second priority area will see the District developing a strategic communication plan with
community input beginning in the 2015-16
school year. A copy of the Black Black report
is available to the school community in the
district office.
Superintendents Report
(Quynh Trueblood)
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention
has notified public health officials and schools
of the outbreak of measles in the neighboring
states of MN and IL last week. The protocol
for confirming cases of measles and a response system involves coordination between
the national, state, and local agencies to provide schools with directions. Per the protocol,
the district delivered a communication to families of the alert with pertinent
information. The school nurse has been in direct contact with families as needed. In general, should a case be reported, the attending
physician notifies the Sheboygan County
Health Department, which engages a full review by the State Health Department who then
work with the Superintendent and State
Health Officer to develop a school response
plan. You can be confident that student health
and continued learning are our highest priorities.
The 94th State Education Convention hosted
by WASB, WASDA, and WASBO offered the
widest selection of topics in the recent past,
from the typical of legal, financial, and governance, to the new territory in political advo-
cacy, compensation, and accountability. The

emergence of a wider array of substantive
topics has the entire school community facing
more than ever before since 2011. Kevin
Honeycutt, keynote speaker, mixed humor
mixed with reality and hope to remind us that
we have the power to do what we do best for
students and then, dare to do it.
Youth players and their coaches were recognized at the Girls JV1 game during halftime. It was fun to watch their excitement! I
join Bridgit Zielke and youth basketball
coaches and players parents in feeling encouraged to imagine that Kohler High School
may field varsity and JV girls teams for the
2015-16 school conference league. In
Bridgits words, Its promising that our
daughters may have the opportunity to participate in a sport they love and while doing
so, become team players, leaders and confident young women.
WASB recognizes Board President, Marlene
Yang, for her efforts in leadership and board
development with a Level II Certificate of
Achievement and pin. We are fortunate to
have an active, engaged, and leading president.
Principals Report (Lori Neurohr)
The Kohler Foundation has tallied the votes to
determine the winners of the 18th Annual Gingerbread Festival Competition. Prizes, based
on votes received, were awarded to some of
our elementary classes.
First place winners, receiving a cash prize of
$500 were Mrs. Roebers 2nd/3rd grade class
with their creation titled Christmas at the
Wonka Candy Factory and Mrs. LaDukes 4th
grade class with their replica of Miller Park
- Home of the Milwaukee Brewers. Third
place honorees and recipients of $100 awards
were Mrs. Bleys 4 year old Kindergarten class
with Just Kidding Around, and Mrs. Bartelts
fifth grade class and their Retro McDonalds.
Thanks to the hard work of our middle school
students during their cookie dough fundraising
activity, the outstanding job of our elementary
students reaching their Bomber Pride goal and
the generosity of the Kohler School Friends,
the elementary and middle school students
were treated to a school assembly on bullying,
perseverance, bike safety and character. From
the stages of Americas Got Talent to our
school gymnasium, Matt Wilhelm performed
amazing BMX bike stunts while sharing powerful messages with students and staff.
Growing up Matt was called Ears and was
the target of bullies. He grabbed everyones
attention by telling his personal story and offering three specific steps on how to deal with
bullies: never fight, tell an adult and engage
the bystanders. His powerful and thoughtprovoking bullying program was educational,
fun and moving. As a leading youth speaker,
Matts stories resonated with our students
and staff. One particular story that resonated
with many was a time when Matt was surrounded by other kids picking on him. A student came by and saw what was happening
and stood up for Matt. He described to students how that one student became his superhero and changed his life.
As compelling as his personal stories about
being bullied were the amazing tricks he did
on his bike, including jumping over Mrs.
Cleven, Mr. Coenen and Mr. Bayens. Matt
shared that after eight years of practice, he
made it to the X games only to finish in last
place. He has since gone on to win three X
game medals and two National Championships. He currently is the fastest bike spin-
ner in the world and finished in the top ten on

season 6 of Americas Got Talent.

BRAT FRY
On Sunday, May 3, 2015, the Kohler Volunteer Fire Department is having its annual brat fry at the Fire Station
from 11:00 am 6:00 pm. Heres a chance to enjoy some
great food and refreshments, and at the same time show
your appreciation to the firefighters who give so much
time and effort, and risk their own lives to make our community safer. Proceeds from the fry are used to purchase
special fire/rescue equipment, subsidize a portion of our
business and social expenses, support various community
youth programs, local area Fire/Rescue projects, and fund
a scholarship in Police/Fire Sciences.
Advance sale tickets are available from all members of the
Fire Department, and we will be selling door-to-door
throughout the Village in the weeks preceding the fry for
your convenience. The tickets cost $1, and are worth $1 in
trade at the fry, and also give you a chance at our nice selection of door prizes.

Just a reminder
Drivers should be aware that the warmer weather will
allow more and more bicycles and scooters to be out and
about. Please be aware of the children when driving
through the village. Bikes and scooters are allowed on the
sidewalks. Scooters are not allowed on the streets. Also,
the newer motorized scooters are not allowed on the
streets or sidewalks. Those are allowed on private property only.
Greenfield Drive Crosswalk
Be aware of the new crosswalk on Greenfield Drive and
the potential that with the warmer weather students may
be using it to and from school. All crosswalks require that
the driver yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk. This
crosswalk will alert the driver to their presence when activated by the pedestrian. Parents should advise their children to use this crosswalk instead of the crosswalk by
Church Street. This area has fewer lanes to cross and has
the added safety of the flashing lights.

Yard Waste
Weather permitting; yard waste pickup will start on Tuesday, March 24, 2015.
During the weeks of March 24 and 31, and April 7, 14, 21,
and 28, residents may put out as much yard waste as they
want, provided it is in solid containers. Starting May 5,

yard waste must be in the cart with the green lid only. No
plastic bags are allowed in the yard waste carts or solid
containers. Dates with unlimited pickup are subject to
change depending on the weather. Please check the Village website www.kohlervillage.org for changes. Residents may also haul yard waste to Scottys Landscape at
3823 Enterprise Drive in the Town of Sheboygan. There is
a $5.00 fee per load. Please call 452-1925 for details.
Do NOT rake leaves and debris into the street. Curbside
leaf collection is in the fall only.
Brush
Brush pickup will start on Tuesday, March 24, 2015.
Brush must be neatly piled in four-foot lengths. The maximum diameter is six inches. No brush with thorns will be
picked up. Thorny material must be cut up and put in the
cart with the green lid. Brush not complying will be
tagged and not picked up.

The Kohler Pool will be opening for the Spring April
14th. Spring hours for open swim are: Tuesdays and
Thursdays 6:00-7:30 PM; Saturday and Sunday 1:30-4:00
PM. Kohler Residents are free. Non-Residents are
charged $1 if you are with a resident. If you are not with a
resident the cost is $3.
Water In Motion
Water in Motion class will be held beginning Monday,
April 20, from 7-8 AM Monday/Wednesday/Friday. There
is no pre-registration for this class. The cost is $1 per class
for Residents and $3 for non-residents. There are punch
cards available, 12 classes for $10/residents, or $34 for
non-residents.
Swim Lessons
Swim lessons begin June 15-25. Registration opens April
1. Classes are scheduled Monday Thursday at 9 AM and
10 AM.
