1.0 SCOPE
The purpose/scope of this maintenance task is to conduct a function test of the device in order
to assure its accuracy and verify the correct operation of the device and its loop components.
The performance and condition of the device and its loop components will determine whether
further maintenance or calibration is required.
This task should be undertaken by trained personnel only.
Precautions
Where this instrument forms part of safety or trip system, refer to the appropriate cause and
effect drawings prior to inhibiting all relevant trips. Initiate all relevant inhibits/overrides and
confirm the correct input inhibits/overrides have been applied and logs updated prior to
commencing work.

Inspection
Inspect the device for evidence of damage, corrosion and contamination. Check cables and
glands for security / damage and ensure identification is in place, secure, correct and legible.
If equipment is Ex carry out Ex Close Inspection as per work instruction Ex-004A.
Function Test
As-found
a. Isolate the switch from the process medium and depressurise through the vent / drain
point, prior to carrying out calibration.
b. Apply test pressure and verify that the switch trip point operates at the correct setting.
c. On completion of calibration remove pressure test source and close calibration point,
and any vent / drain isolation points.
d. During Switch Calibration verify that the trip and alarm points operate at the correct
settings and that any remote indications of alarms on the control system are correct.
Note: Any differences found on tag number, range, set points etc, between field,
control system and associated documentation needs to be resolved.
e. If the error is within the range tolerance for the instrument then this test has passed
and shall be recorded in SAP as OK.
As-left
f.
If the error is outside the range tolerance then this test has failed. The instrument
should then be adjusted and an as-left calibration recorded.
g. Reset alarms, remove any inhibits and confirm that indication have returned to the
healthy state.
h. Ensure that the relevant personnel are informed that the test is complete.
After Test
Ensure equipment is left in a safe condition and cleanup worksite.
Return all equipment to normal operating state, verify operation & notify the OCC and/or other
authorities when tasks are complete.
Close out any permits raised for the work.

5.0 REPORTING
Complete the PM Work Order in SAP; raise a Notification for any follow up corrective work and
flag the SAP Review for any proposed changes to the maintenance tasks or data all in
accordance with the SAP process.
Any serious defects must be reported to Line Management and the Instruments Support
Engineer.
