Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

Happy Easter
After Jesus died on Friday and rose from the dead on
Easter Sunday morning, He turned the tables on the devil
and had the last laugh. Satan and his demons threw a party
on Friday, but their laughter turned to howling, knowing that
they had been eternally defeated and humiliated. As Martin
Luther said, God is not a God of sadness, but the devil is. It
is pleasing to your God whenever you rejoice or laugh from
the bottom of your heart. As two little boys were talking in
The Family Circus: This may be Good Friday, but Sunday
is going to be even gooder.
For many years in Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant traditions, the day after
Easter became a day of laughter and celebration, called Bright Monday. Many
have labeled Christians as fools for believing in a risen Savior. April Fools
Day could refer to the fool who says in his heart, There is no God. However,
we are called to be fools for Christs sake (1 Corinthians 4:10), but not foolish.
The word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who
are being saved, it is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:18). We dont have to
put on a clown face, pull practical jokes on our friends, or force laughter in the
midst of sorrow.
We can be inspired by a painting by Jack Jewell of a smiling Savior, entitled,
The Risen Christ by the Sea. On that post-Easter morning, when Jesus stood
by the Lake of Galilee (John 21), He asked, Boys, have you got anything to
eat? Corpses dont chow down on a good breakfast! In His glorified body,
Jesus shared a fellowship meal and then challenged Peter to love Him, feed the
sheep, and follow Him the rest of his life.
We will be blessed April 18 & 19 by a friend and speaker who has a unique
sense of humor, encouragement, and motivation Dr. Charles Lowery. He
served as a pastor, college professor, clinical psychologist, and corporate
motivator. He is one of the most sought after speakers in America. He will be
in the worship services Saturday and Sunday, and leading a Sunday evening
seminar, 6:00 8:00 pm, concerning practical tips for marriage and family. Even
if you are single, you will thoroughly enjoy his sharp wit. I particularly believe
that this is a positive opportunity to invite unsaved and unchurched to hear not
an evangelist but a winsome Christian psychologist and humorist, as we will
be charmed and challenged. Until then, Happy Easter!
*There is a guest reception in the Commons following the Saturday night and
Sunday morning 11:00am worship services. Pastor would love to meet you!

Rejoicing in Gods Goodness

Still Time to be Part of the Memorial

We had an amazing time last Sunday,

celebrating all God has done in eliminating
our debt. If you took a rock last week and
couldnt make it to the service, you can still
turn it in this weekend, or bring it by the office
during the week. If you would like to contribute
a rock to the memorial, you can pick one up
in the Courtyard Pavillion after service and
write a Scripture, reference, attribute/name of
God, or a meaningful word on it. Lets rejoice
in Gods faithfulness and goodness together!
