Sampradayas, Mantras
And their Importance
Sampradya is often translated into English as
sect, which is derived from the Latin term secta,
meaning a path. However, the term sect is sometimes
used to refer to groups of people with a narrow frame
of mind who are not open to others points of view.
From the etymological point of view, the term
sampradya is composed of sam + pra + dya. The
prefix sam means samyak, complete; the prefix
pra means prakarea, thoroughly; and the
verbal form dya indicates the act of bestowing.
Thus, the term sampradya actually means the
medium through which complete and thorough

it is known as a sampradya. It is said by Lord Vishnu,
the conqueror of the worlds, that, A sampradya is
the truthful transmission of facts by one who knows
them correctly and completely.
