Location

Putrajaya is Malaysia's third and latest Federal Territory. Built on an expansive

marshland and former oil palm estate in Selangor, the city spans an area of almost 5,000
hectares and lies 25 km from Kuala Lumpur. Putrajaya takes over the administrative
functions of the capital city Kuala Lumpur and is part of the Multimedia Super Corridor
project of the Malaysian government. Putrajaya is conceived as one of two 'intelligent cities'
under the Multimedia Super Corridor project. This is a 15km-by-50km zone, to be occupied
by high-technology companies, which Malaysia envisions as its version of California's Silicon
Valley. The city is bound by a fibre-optic network that provides high-speed computer links.
Because Putrajaya sits at the centre node of this zone, residents can count on high-speed
Internet access and other electronic-superhighway conveniences, in line with the concept of
electronic government.
Much organization and planning have gone into the development of Putrajaya as a
modern city with the latest communication technologies and progressive infrastructure.
Commercial, authoritative and residential areas have been divided into precincts that blend
into each other cohesively. At 450 hectares, Precinct 11 is the largest of the 21 planned
precincts that make up the communities surrounding the administrative core. Precinct 11
features a town centre at its core, with a full range of community facilities, commercial
services and recreation amenities and will eventually house a population of over 55,000.

The housing unit is quaint, comfortable and offers a different quality of lifestyle for
its residents. Unlike the fenced-up homes commonly found throughout the country,
Putrajaya homes adopt the open-concept. The feeling it evokes is one of safety, neighborly
friendliness and warmth. The area is also packed with greenery. Each neighborhood is well-

planned and exudes a warm and homely-feel. The housing units are equipped with modern

metropolis, which boasts a dozen parks and jogging paths, will boost the morale of civil
servants.
The population is made up predominately of Malays. There are also small minorities
of other races as well in the area. Ultimately, most of the people are government servants
working in Putrajaya's sleek office complexes since the area is made up for quarters home.
The people in the area possess higher educational attainment.
Parent Involvement in School
School administrator and teachers often have much interaction with parents and they
view the relationship as their priority. Parent involvement in the school is high in most
activities conducted by school such as Parents Teacher Association (PIBG), School
Cooperative Organization for standard six students (Majlis Permuafakatan Sekolah untuk
pelajar tahun 6), report card day, gotong royong, solat hajat, sports day and a lot more.
Most parents really care about their children. Teachers also believe parents are interested in
learning parenting, developmental, and educational techniques. The parents are able to
accept partnership with the school.
Parents always take part in gotong royong to enliven the schools landscape, to
upgrade the schools infrastructure or to beautify the school compound.
Parents take part seriously in developing individual potential in students by attending
the report card day. During report card day, the teacher informs the parents about their
childs progress at school, and the parents are asked about their view of the childs
development. This is one way that school administrators and other teachers encourage
parents to be involved and provide parents with opportunities to interact with the school.
It is important that the school and parents cooperate on childrens learning. Parent
involvement is critical in facilitating children's development and achievement and in
preventing and remedying educational and developmental problems.
