BROCHURE
Programs Used: Illustrator, Photoshop,

and InDesign

Description: Create a brochure for a company

including original body copy and a logo.
Objectives:

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images.
Write at least 250 words of original body copy.

Process:

I started by deciding which layout I

wanted my brochure to have. I chose to do an offset
layout. Once I had the layout I set up margins and a
grid to begin my design. I was then able start finding
my images and added them into my layout. I used tools
in Photoshop to clip a couple of my images so that I
could use text wrap in InDesign. I used tools like the
quick selection to select the part of the image I wanted
and then used the refine edge in Photoshop to change
the smoothness, feather, and contrast of the edge of
my selection.
I used Illustrator to create my logo. I used the pen tool
to create the outline of the elephant and then used
the ellipse tool to put an ellipse around the elephant
and then found fonts that I felt went well with the logo
design and worked for the company I was designing
it for.

MONTAGE

Program Used:

Photoshop

Description: Create a montage in Photoshop

using at least two pictures and text to create a
spiritual message.
Objectives:

Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant

spiritual message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually,
using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for
layout with multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles
Select good quality images

Process: I first selected my background image. I

loved the colors and how strong of an image it was. I
then found my second image of the Saviors hand, which
originally had similar yellow/golden colors in it, which I
felt would blend well with the sunset in my background
image. I then found text to add. However, the first text
I found was a bit too lengthy and was not quite working
with the rest of the composition. So I searched for new
text that would still fit with my design, worked with the
alignment, size, and variations within the text. I feel that
there is a great focal point created by the path, light, and
Saviors hand.

EVENT AD

Program Used:

Microsoft Word

Description: Create a full color event ad flier

for a benefit fundraiser.
Objectives:

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.

Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for
your message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using
any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process: For this project we were only allowed to

use a scanner for our image and Microsoft Word for
designing. I was able to focus on repetition through
repeating design elements and colors. I also used the
principle of contrast with the fonts. The principle of
simplifying the design using elimination was used a lot
from my draft to my final.

LOGOS

Program Used: Microsoft Word

Description: Create three logo variations for

the same company.

Objectives:

Create three completely different, original logos to fit

a company or personal image that will appeal to
the audience.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw
your logos.

Process: I created these logos using Illustrator. I

used the pen tool to draw the ice cream cone for the
middle logo and changed the stroke on it to make it
look more hand drawn. I used the ellipse tool to create
the scoops of ice cream in the top logo and used the
paintbrush tool to create the bowl. I also used the ellipse
tool for the outline of the bottom logo. I tried to create
some visual hierarchy with the typography by changing
the size and colors of the words.

STATIONERY
Programs Used:

Illustrator and InDesign

Description: Create a new logo for a company

and design a letterhead and business card for them.

Objectives:

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.

Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a
business card and letterhead.

Process: My first page is the letterhead I created for

AW Massage. I started by creating the logo in illustrator
and placed it near the top of my letterhead. I placed it on
the right side of the page so that text would flow better
in relation to the logo. I then created the grey rectangle
at the bottom of the page and added in the contact
information. I felt that having the lines in between the
text helped to separate them and make it easier to
understand.

BUSINESS
CARD

Programs Used:

Illustrator and InDesign

Description: Create a new logo for a company

and design a letterhead and business card for them.
Objectives:

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.

Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a
business card and letterhead.

Process: I took the design elements from the

letterhead and added them into the business card, I

added an extra light grey light to the business card,
which I later also added to the letterhead. I tried creating
a vertical business card, but felt that the horizontal
layout felt more balanced and united with the letterhead.
I added the image into both last. Making the flower a
watermark image in the background of the letterhead
and then adding the image to the back of the business
card. I did this to add a better design element that unites
both stationery layouts.

FLIER

Program Used:

InDesign

Description: Create a black and white flier for

a Graduate Leadership Conference.
Objectives:

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier

layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.

Process: I started this project by creating sketches

of layout options. I then took a couple of those sketches

and created digital sketches of the layouts in Adobe
InDesign. I chose the best layout and then using the
information and images created a unified layout. I made
the word graduate in the title stand out by increasing
the font size and adding a slight drop shadow. The date,
time, and place was placed in a right alignment on the
right of the page so that it would be easy to find. I also
wanted good use of white space, but did not want it to
be white, so I changed the boxes to black and different
shades of gray, colors taken from the image to help keep
the whole composition unified.
