A stationary project for a new company.

I first thought of what I should do for this project. I decided to
make a stationary for my own career as a web designer. Then I
thought what could represent a web designer. I then thought of
a spider web logo. I sketched up a couple webs, and I went to
illustrator. Using illustrator I made one divided section of the
web, then I used the rotate tool to copy the sections all around.
For the web on the business card, I wanted it to be a continuous
flow to the other side. So I made the web cover both sides of the
card, and I used the shape builder tool to cut out the excess web.
For the color of the web, I wanted it to be similar to a value of
grey to be smooth to the eye. I then decided on the fonts that I
should used. The oldstyle Calligraphic font that I font went well,
and the Avenir font showed the informational text good.

Message

The message is a web and the code tag to show that the
stationary belongs to a web developer.

Audience

The audience is for anyone looking to make a website. Typically

they would be adults.

Top Thing Learned

The best thing that I learned was the rotate tool. I used the
rotate tool to make the web.

Color scheme and

color names

I used a monochromatic color schemes with a very light grey

color.

Description This project is an inspirational montage using multiple photos with image

masking and layering.

Process The first thing that I did was look for an inspirational quote. I did this

to get inspiration of what to draw and to sketch. After the sketches, I

found the photos that I wanted to put into my project. I found multiple
mirrors, a candle, a dark hallway, mist, and dark clouds. I then started to
combine everything into Photoshop. While combining all of them, I used
image masking and layering. There were some problems with making
an accurate reflection. I ended up just making a fog dominant in the
photo. Then I was looking around for a good font to make the photo.
The font that I used really complements the old-style of mirrors. After
much refinement, I was able to print out the final project.

Message The message of the montage is to inspire people to spread light as if they

were a candle and not a mirror.

Audience The targeted audience would be teenagers and young adults. This would

also be for the people that may be having trouble with identity issues.

Top Thing Learned The top thing that I learned was how to show a proper reflection, or

attempt to make a proper reflection. Another thing that I learned was

how to use image masking and layering.

Filter /Colorization The filter that I used was a dark and dusty photo, to convey more

darkness over the hallway and dirt over the mirrors.

Colr Scheme and The color scheme that I used was a split-complementary. I used the
color name colors yellow, green, and violet. The other colors in the photo were dark

values of grey and blue.

Title Font Name The font that I used was Myanmar MN Regular.

Description This is a flier for a graduate leadership conference. This project was

made using InDesign. While formulating what I wanted to make, I

knew I wanted to make something simple with a good focus point on
the picture.

Process The first part of the project was the formultaion stage. In this stage,

I got to think about the message and audience that I wanted to gear
towards to. As a result, I was able to make the sketches of what I
wanted to draw. After drawing, I went to InDesign to make the flier
that I was envisioning. I was thinking of two different designs, so I
printed them out for the critique. I received the critique, and I modified
the designs how I wanted to make.

Message The message is to gain more leadership experience in the workplace

through training with officials from Vouant Communication.

Audience Graduate students are the targeted audience. They are meant to be

attracted towards their career with leadership opportunities.

Top Thing Learned I learned how to use InDesign more. I do have previous experience

with the Adobe software, but I have not designed something from
scratch in InDesign. This is important to learn, because all of the
Adobe programs are different in functionality purposes.

Title Font Name For the typeface, I used the font Perpetua in the Modern category.
and Category
Copy Font Name The other font that I used is Aktiv Grotesk in the Sans serif category.

Description Three logo variations for a website.

Process I started out this process by sketching out what I wanted to make. I knew that

I wanted to make something related to the website that I am making. With the
logos, I wanted to have one similar to the facebook logo, and another one I
wanted to be a simple typography example. After I was done sketching, I went
into Adobe Illustrator to make them. There were a lot of variations that I made.
At first, I tried making a hand-written font, but that did not work as well as I
wanted it to. So then I went to a sans serif bold font. With the middle logo, I
first made it with the pen tool. But then I learned about the shape builder tool
to make the logo look smoother. The last logo I had some difficulty with, but
I made it to be a typography example. With all the logos, I implemented two
monochromatic and one analogous color scheme. It seemed to me that the color
schemes could be very simple to show how a logo should be.

Message The message is be bright and encourage people to have date activities. This will

be the purpose of the website.

Audience The target audience are young adults.

Top Thing Learned The top thing that I learned was how to use the shape builder tool in illustrator.

This came out with really smooth and nice looks on the logos.

Color scheme and The top two logos are monochromatic. The top logo is a value of red, and the
color names middle logo is a light value of blue. For the bottom logo, I used an analogous

color scheme with blue and teal.

Three sets of Title/Body Top Logo First Font (Title Font): I used the Aktiv Grotesk Bold font.
Font Names Top Logo: N/A
and Categories Middle Logo First Word: I used Century Gothic Regular.

Middle Logo Second Word: Then I used a Georgia font.

Bottom Logo First Word: I used Century Gothic again.
Bottom Logo Second Word: I lost what font I used on the second one, but it is a
font similar to elephant.

Votes on The middle logo received almost unanimous count of being the strongest logo.
fovorite logo Top Logo = 2; Middle Logo = 11; Bottom Logo = 0;
My favorite logo My favorite logo is the middle logo, because it conveys more the message of the

website name. Bate means when a bird is starting to take off to fly.

It is a flip brochure.
It was really fun making this two week project. I started out with the basic
layout of the brochure. I used paper examples with boxes as my sketch
process. I made the logo by the same way. After sketching and making
the folds of how I wanted, I went into InDesign to lay everything out. I
made the logo in illustrator, and I modified one photo in photoshop. I
retrieved other photos from the internet in order to make this project. I
got the layout that I wanted and the next week started. I learned how to
make paragraph and header styling. So I put in the text that I wanted to
use. I ended up modifying the text just a little bit due to the text that I had.
And then I continued the project modifying and fine tuning some small
aspects. Then I came up with this!

Message

Inform my audience and convince them of the use of semantic web

design.

Audience

Web Designers or people learning to become web designers.

Top Thing Learned

The top thing that I learned was the paragraph styling and wrapping.

Color scheme and

color names

I used a monochromatic color scheme with different hues of green.

I used a sans-serif font called Corbel for the titles of my brochure design.
I used a serif font called Cambria for the paragraph text.

Description
Process

This is a ad flier for a fundraiser of Boys and Girls in the BYU-Idaho

planetarium.
The process was done by looking at what pictures could give me good
possibilities and sketching out the layout. At last, I was looking in the
January Ensign, and I saw this picture that I used. To develop the ad, I
used the great features of Microsoft Word. I especially wanted to use
some nice simple balance in this ad, so that the photo would have a
strong presence. At last, I chose a good font for the title and body text.
Those fonts brought out the purpose of the event.

Message

I wanted to convey an awesome message of a fundraiser opportunity

for Boys and Girls while utilizing the star photo.

Audience

Parents that want their kids to get a good education are the audience of
my ad, because they would want to bring their kids to the show so that
they may learn about outer space.

Color scheme and

color names

The color scheme that I was using had a lot to do with the color
schemes on the scanned image. I wanted the preserve that color
scheme. The hues that were principally used were red and white. The
scanned image also provided hues of teal and orange. It is almost a split
complementary color scheme that was used.

Top Thing Learned

I think that the best thing that I learned from this project was diagonal
balance, color manipulation, and asymmetry. The lab tutor helped me
understand this principle well when he critiqued it. The ad is so much
more interesting now than it was before.

Description

This is a flier with a split complementary color scheme, with the

purpose to orient the faculty of BYUI to the Faculty Technology
Center is if they need help with a Learning Management System
called Desire2Learn.

Process

I had to be very diligent through this process, because I made about

three revisions and it came out well. I started out the process by
sketching what I wanted with the layout of the poster. The original
layout had the photo on the left side and the body text on the right
side. After I made the sketches and the plan, I went to the FTC to
take a picture of a coworker. Everything was all taken or planned,
so I started to edit the photo to how I have it in the final picture.
Then I started to assemble everything together in Photoshop. I was
able to get so many good reviews, so that I was able to bring out the
flier to what it is now. I changed the color scheme from tetradic to
complementary split. I rearranged the original format so that the flow
of the design was more natural. And I also eliminated small details
that were making the flier a little clustered.

Message

The message of the project is to offer help to the faculty members of

BYUI when the I-Learn changes to Desire2Learn.

Audience

The audience is the faculty of BYUI.

Top Thing Learned

There are so many cool things that I learned or reaffirmed in my

project. Possibly the top thing learned was the use of unsaturated
colors, so that they appealed easier to the eye. The final project is
much easier to look at than the original draft.

Color scheme and

color names

I used a split complementary color scheme with unsaturated colors of

blue, orange, and blue.

Description

A webpage to show the logo I made a couple weeks ago.

Process

I started out this project by looking at some modern styles for webpages.
I observed that some modern styles are appearing with blocks that stretch
across the page with another block of text that would be contained inside.
I wanted to try and resemble this appearance because it looked more
attractive that some old-style webpage. I used an open-source editor called
Brackets. I really like this one, because it is very light-weight and has two
great features. It has an auto-fill and a live preview feature. I first made
the HTML file and I then created the CSS file. The HTML file follows an
inner div technique that I learned in another class. The inner div technique
also accomplishing the modern-style webpage that I wanted to make. With
the CSS file, I made the logo move out and in and I made the webpage
responsive through a media query.

Message

This message is meant to explain what was the process I used to make the
logo.

Audience

The website is meant to appeal to the companies that are looking for how
I made the logo. I am also making the same website, so with the website I
want to appeal more towards the young single adults of BYUI.

Top Think Learned

The top thing that I was able to learn is doing the CSS animations. This
would be really useful for me because I am majoring in Web Design and
Development, and it would be handy to know.

Color Scheme

I used a monochromatic color scheme with the hexadecimal colors;

#E6E6E6, #076989, #83B4C4, and #B5D2DC. These are all different
hues of gray and the color in the logo.

Title Font

The title font is slab serif called Roboto Slab from Google Fonts and it has
the color #032A37.

Copy Font

The body font is sans serif called Open Sans from Google Fonts and it
has the color #06546E

CSS file

I actually made my own CSS file from scratch. I did not want to use the
CSS file given in the assignment, and I created the look to how I wanted
it to feel like. I also design the webpage to be responsive through a media
query and I added in a CSS animation.
