Section 2 Composition
Explosive Hazard: May explode upon contact with concentrated sulfuric acid,
ammonium salts, peroxides, glycerol, ethanol, ether, sulfur,
phosphorous, etc. In acidic condition, may react violently and
cause fire upon contact with organic material, sulfur, carbon,
reducing agent, flammables.
Eye Contact: Check for and remove any contact lenses. Immediately flush
eyes with running water for at least 15 minutes, keep eyelids
open. Cold water may be used. Do not use an eye ointment.
Seek medical attention.
Skin Contact: After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water.
Gently and thoroughly wash the contaminated skin with
running water and non-abrasive soap. Be particularly careful
to clean folds, crevices, creases and groin.
Cold water may be used. Cover the irritated skin with an
emollient. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Wash
contaminated clothing before reusing.
Serious Skin Contact: Wash with a disinfectant soap and cover the contaminated
skin with an anti-bacterial cream. Seek medical attention.
Spill Treatment: Persons not wearing protective equipment and clothing should be
(1) Ventilate the spill area. Confine spill in a pit or behind a holding dam
of sand or soil.
(2) Dilute to approximately 6.0% with water then reduce with sodium
thiosulfate, a bisulfite or a ferrous salt solution. Bisulfite or ferrous salt
may require dilute sulfuric acid (10%), to promote reduction.
(3) Adjust pH to neutral with Sodium Carbonate if required. (4) Decant
or filter solution and deposit sludge in an approved landfill.
(5) To clean contaminated floors, flush with an abundant quantity of
water and treat collected water as described above.
(6) Dispose of all waste according to all federal, state and local
regulations. Unused material is a hazardous waste: D001- Ignitable.
Do not wash or pour sodium permanganate aqueous solution into any
surface waters or streams or directly into sewers.
Precautions: Keep away from heat. Keep away from sources of ignition. Keep away
from combustible material. Empty containers pose a fire risk; evaporate
the residue under a fume hood. Ground all equipment containing
material.
In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.
If ingested, seek medical advice immediately and show the container or
the label. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Keep away from
incompatibles such as reducing agents, organic materials, metals,
acids, moisture.
Storage: Keep in a cool, dry, ventilated area. Ground all equipment containing
material. Containers should be closed. Avoid mixing with impurities like
organic material, flammables, etc. Store in separate safety cabinet or
room away from acids, organic material, flammables, reducing agent,
reactive metal powders, autoflammables, etc. Storage facilities should
be equipped with suitable material to absorb the spills.
Engineering Controls: Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, provide eyewash in
working area or other engineering controls to keep airborne levels
Respiratory Protection: Use mist respiratory mask. In case of emergency evacuation, wear air
supplied respirator.
Other Protection: No smoking, eating or drinking in working area. Shower and change
cloths after use.
Toxicity of the Biodegradation Products: The product itself and its products of
degradation are not toxic.
Special Remarks on the Products of Biodegradation: Not available.
