especially for a company that has global ambition. The Company follows laws and encourages a

Trade Unionism
An organization whose membership consists of workers and union leaders, united to protect and
promote their common interests. The principal purposes of a labor union are to
(1) Negotiate wages and working condition terms
(2) Regulate relations between workers (its members) and the employer
(3) Take collective action to enforce the terms of collective bargaining
(4) Raise new demands on behalf of its members and
(5) Help settle their grievances.
Square pharmaceuticals ltd symbolizes the power of team work as a result there is well organized
trade union. They negotiate wages, work rules, complaint procedures, rules governing hiring,
firing and promotion of workers, benefits, workplace safety and policies. Sometimes they
enforce strike or resistance lockouts for their particular goals. The most common purpose of
these associations or unions is maintaining or improving the conditions of their employment.
Square Pharmaceuticals Ltds Workers Trade Union named Square Kormochari Samity
(Registrar of Trade Union, Registration No: 1322) was formed on January 22, 1970 and at
present there are around 1000 members of the Union.
Recently Square pharmaceuticals Ltd. has signed the collective contract with their employees. In
the recent year a collective contract was signed through collective consultation. The primary
objective of the consultation is to increase the welfare and wages of the workers under the
guarantee of higher profits, and to regulate industrial relations. First, the management has to
listen to opinions from employees at various levels and to check with national and overseas
standards before coming up with a draft on the said agreement. The draft is then under discussion
with various working groups such as a labor inspection committee with their counterparts inside
the organization. Then, consultation with the management representatives takes place, and the
final version needs to be approved by the Workers Congress. The collective contract covers
general provisions employees remunerations, working hours and rests, OSH and hygiene,
insurance and welfare, special protections for female employee and young people, job training
and education, labor contract management, awards and disciplinary actions, renewal,
modification and terminations of contracts, enforcement and dispute resolution procedure and
liabilities.
From the very inception, Square lay down and practiced policies to foster good industrial
relations in all its plants and establishments. SPL like the other Strategic Business Units (SBU)
of the Group maintains and upholds HR policies that are consistent with the Labor Laws of the
country. Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd leads the Group in encouraging workers freedom of
association and their right for collective bargaining.
