Antenatal/Prenatal is a critical phase in the life of the mother which starts from
conception up to the period before delivery. Initial and periodic health assessments are needed to
prevent complications where possible and ensure that problems during pregnancy will be
detected early and treated properly. The objective of prenatal care is to reach all pregnant
women, to give sufficient care to ensure a healthy pregnancy and the birth of a full term healthy
baby.
Anemia still become a main problem in this public health. Some of nurses-midwives at
this public health admitted that Fes Tablets has been giving to every mother which was found
anemia in their laboratory result. Even though this program is still on going, the mother with
anemia still having anemia at the next ANCs visit. Nurse-midwives at this Public Health might
not tell very well about what anemia is, how important to consume Fes Tablets daily
complications of anemia in pregnancy besides some mother with anemia that they said
sometimes forgot to consume the Fes Tablet.
Ideal number of midwives needed is 2 and the number of obstetrician is 1 person. The
fact here there are 2 midwives while obstetrician is 1 only to perform USG on Monday and
Friday, it is not in accordance with the government's expectations are set. They (the midwife)
complained about the amount of available health workers less, due to the amount so they have
trouble doing administration, and the ANC against pregnant women still feels unsatisfactory.
There are numerous reason of patient who didnt come to do the antenatal care, such as: lack
of knowledge, difficulty of access to transportation to health facilities, economic difficulties,
choose traditional medicine compared to do an ante natal care to District Health Clinic, many
pregnant women do not want to come alone because they want to be accompanied.
The medical equipment here are good enough to support antenatal care. They have a room
with two beds for maternal physical examination, on certain days it also used for the babies to
lying down to have an immunization. There is scale to measure weight and height (for mom and
babies), tape measure, sphygmomanometers, stethoscope, thermometer, immunization kit, pocket
fetal Doppler, and Doppler ultrasonography machine. Things that we need to be considered are
about the quantity and quality of those equipment.
