New grief
group offered
There are so many
times in our lives when
we hit transitional times.
As we move through
changing situations, we
are not always prepared
to face these changes.
At the time of death of
a loved one, there are multiple transitional changes.
Having others to share
with in discussion and
resources can be helpful.
Life Past Loss will
begin meeting at 7:30 p.m.
today at St. Johns Ministry
Center. The group will be
hosted by the Rev. David
Howell and Sue Sherran,
MSLPCC, who will meet to
discuss and support issues
around death and dying.
There will also be a
chance to share socially at noon the third
Friday of each month
at the Topp Chalet
(Dutch treat) at noon.
This is an ecumenical ministry and
open to everyone.
For more information, call Rev. Howell
at 419-236-1371.

Farmers ready to
plant corn, soybeans
The Herald 3
STATE/LOCAL
BY JAMES HOORMAN
Putnam County Extension Educator
news@delphosherald.com
The following article was written by Ed Lentz, Hancock
County Extension.
Farmers are gearing up for corn and soybean planting,
which use to take two to three weeks of good weather to finish,
but now can be accomplished in three to seven days with new
technology and advanced planters. Several farmers in the area
have GPS planters so they can come back to the same row year
after year.
In order for all of this to happen, grain farmers will inspect
and repair planters during the months prior to planting so that
these planters are at peak performance before planting begins.
A planter that is not operating properly or breaks down during
planting can cause serious yield reductions from delayed planting or missing the window of optimal weather. The following
is a planter setup and maintenance list that farmers typically
follow:
Check meters on a test stand in order to visually inspect
parts and evaluate performance.
Inspect all mechanical drive components and look for
any excessive wear including down pressure springs, parallel
linkages and bushings.
Check seed tubes for any wear, particularly in the bottom
section that can wear or become damaged. Replace if damaged
or has excessive wear.

For vacuum planters, check all lines for damaged tubes.
Check hydraulic motor for leaks and make sure fan is clean.
These are the planter checkup items before getting to the
field. Once at the field, the farmer has to check the planting
depth, row cleaner setting, closing wheel pressure and the
gauge wheel pressure.

A hodgepodge of opinion, conjecture and whatever
else I can dream up!
Or not!
Elsewhere in todays sports pages is the announcement the National Football League has hired its first fulltime female official of the feminine persuasion!
Whether this is a good story depends on one thing I
echo the sentiments of many that are quoted in that same
story, just maybe not as overboard as I think some were
can she do the job at the highest level?
Will she be as blind heh, heh as many of her
now now-brethren?
As any official of any sport, especially one that is as
fast and furious as professional football, my only concern
is can she keep up with the speed of the game?

species.
As a result of the 2015 quota allocation, the
walleye daily bag limit is four and the yellow
perch daily bag limit is 30 per angler in Ohio
waters of Lake Erie until April 30, 2015. The
daily bag limit will be six walleye from May 1
through Feb. 28, 2016. From March 1 through
April 30, 2016, the daily walleye bag limit
will be four. A 15-inch minimum size limit is
in effect during the entire season for walleye.
The yellow perch daily bag limit is 30 from
May 1 through April 30, 2016, with no minimum size limit. Lake Erie anglers can find
walleye and yellow perch bag limit information at ODNR offices, in special publications
at bait and tackle shops and at wildohio.gov.

Koepka hurting as he
prepares for Masters debut
By DOUG FERGUSON
Associated Press
AUGUSTA, Ga. This wasnt how
Brooks Koepka wanted to play in his
first Masters.
Koepka is among 20 players making
their debut at Augusta National and the
course would seem to fit well with his
power. But three weeks ago, he injured
a rib in his lower left back and withdrew
during the final round of the Arnold Palmer
Invitational to rest up for the Masters.
He still was feeling it during three
days of nine-hole practice rounds.
Its not bad enough that I cant
play, Koepka said. But its not good
enough to be 100 percent.
Koepka is getting treatment daily and
said the condition improves each day.
His hope was to be close to fully healthy
by the weekend, though his first step is
to make the cut. He plays the opening
two rounds with Graeme McDowell and
Matt Kuchar.
What concerns the 24-year-old from
Florida is that he flinches as he follows
through on his swing and tends to lift
up his left arm to protect the rib, even
though that actually makes it worse.
He played a practice round with Rory
McIlroy, a good friend from their time
on the European Tour and in West Palm
Beach, Florida. Koepka added he is not
going at it full strength but I can hit a
nice poke down there and keep up with
Rory.
Koepka won the Turkish Airlines
Open last year, then picked up his first
PGA Tour victory at the Phoenix Open.
He first qualified for the Masters by
