In charge of 100 people: teaching, supervising, quality controlling shipwrights, sparmakers,
caulkers, joiners, carpenters, Italian platers, designers, riggers, sandblasters, engineers,
scaffolders, painters, fairers and hungarian keel drillers
Personally- patterning the whole boat, lofting the hull, making a new lines plan after fairing
the old hull and a new body plan, making offsets tables; supervising hull and deck and entire
construction, lining out hull and deck planking, bulwarks; supervising and patterning hull
and deck steel work and wood work, chain plates, channels, mast step, bobstay fittings,
martingale, engine beds, bulkheads, engine room and tank room, floors and bearers, chain
locker, fife rails, spurling and hawse pipes, gammon iron and bowsprit fittings, heel and
cranse, whisker shrouds, mainsheet buffer, cleats, casting patterns for fairleads, bollards,
stanchions; marking for and supervising drilling and punching 6000 holes in hull and deck.
Estimating in man hours the construction of the entire boat.
Supervising caulking and splining. Personally the construction and alignment of the rudder,
bearings, steering gear, wheel and tiller – 12 men. Personally boring and fastening stern
tube and A- bracket
Designing and making wooden patterns for bronze casting for log and prop shaft A- bracket
and rudder heel bearing. Placing and fastening of dog house, skylights, hatches, mast,
windlasses, batteries, generator, engine. Supervising the position, drilling and fastening of
the 2 piece, 70 ton lead keel. Pre -measuring and ordering all centre line and keel bolts in
bronze.
Setting up the old interior on scaffolding and teaching house joiners and steel workers how
to work as yacht joiners and yacht platers; teaching them, sheer, inclination, camber,
waterlines, buttock and bow lines, centrelines, compound curves, pattern making rods,
lofting, watertightness and structural design.
Personally restoring most of the saloon furniture , including glass fronted doors and sheer
angled writing desk and positioning all internal furniture and old bulkheads , since all the
old interior arrived in a container I had to put the jigsaw puzzle together.
Also teaching 8 people how to restore the tender Alice and copying all bronze parts for a
replica.

Again the same operations as on Lulworth: patterning the whole boat, construction and design
work, supervising 20 people, teaching 5 polish joiners to be shipwrights, only one of whom
spoke English.
Personally making all the centreline structure , boring and fitting rudder and shaft tubes,
designing and fitting engine beds, tanks, installing engine and generator, complete hull deck and
interior, spar fittings, hull and deck fittings, all deck furniture.
Marking waterlines on all three yachts.

1998-2001 Jeanie Johnston –(Ireland) 450 ton Replica Brigantine 30m, 2 decks. Supervising
50 people, foreman shipwright, responsible for cutting and assembling :
• Frames
• Hull planking
• Lining out hull planking, sheer
• Construction of 2decks, beams and deck stanchions, bitts, cavils, bulkheads, hatches
• Construction of stern and beakhead, deadwoods, keelsons, stern post, hawsepipes, chain
lockers, knees, caulking, shelves and stringers, fitting out, deck joinery, bulwarks.

• Construction of fighting tops for Grand Turk for “Horn blower”, 30m Brigantine

• 50% restoration of 1929 ,Commuter yacht, Mohican 66FT, consolidated, 20 tons.
• Installed 2 new Fiat 400hp diesels, sterngear and engine beds
• Made patterns for bronze shaft supports, installed generator, compressor, skin fittings,
plumbing and electrics
• New frames, planking, deck, stringers, cockpit, hatches, bulkheads, 2 boarding ladders in
teak, gangplank
• Repaired Roberta, motor yacht 16m Baglietto, shaft re-aligned

1993 Rennes , France Joiner. Built and fitted out a small house in wood and concrete.

• Building, two 72’, 150 tons, iroko on oak, carvel, transom sterned trawlers with aluminium
shelterdecks and wheelhouses
• Responsible for planking & caulking one side of boat and cutting out all the frame pieces,
plus making and fitting the beamshelves, stringers ,sternpost & transom.
• Working as a charge hand shipwright, fitting out, laying decks
• Designing and building a 10’ carvel dinghy, built for myself as a lofting
exercise
