Unit 10 Communication Technologies

Scenario
You have taken a job as a junior technician at NetCo, a company that
makes networking hardware (switches, routers, etc.). They are planning to
set up a networking academy (rather like the Cisco Network Academy)
and create related qualifications. The project manager has asked you to
prepare some learning materials to be used in the delivery of the course.
Your training materials can be produced as a series of presentations,
leaflets and posters.
Tasks:
1. Create a leaflet explaining how networks communicate. This should
include annotated diagrams. (P1)
2. Produce a report identifying different communication protocols and
models, using diagrams to help in your explanation. (P2)
a. Following on from task 2, explain why communication
protocols and models are important. (M1)
b. Include a section in your report of not less than 500 words
looking at the OSI and TCP/IP models, comparing their features
and uses. Where possible give examples of when it would be
best to use each model. (D1)
3. Create a poster for display in the training room identifying and
describing different types of communication devices, using images
where appropriate. (P3)
4. Produce an information sheet describing what data elements are
and why they are important. (P4)
