PLEASE NOTE:
One of the essential advantages offered by the system is the fact that different equipment
from all manufacturers can be coupled by means of the standardized BUS from a single pair
of wires (plus one pair in reserve) and are capable of mutual communication. The functional
interconnection is realized by programming, which can be performed simply, for instance,
with the use of a laptop.
In principle, all BUS modules operate decentrally. They are freely addressable individually
without a host computer and are logically interconnected with the installation software. The
use of a central unit (such as a personal computer) is expedient only if records, graphical
surveys (for instance, functional monitoring on the basis of building layouts), or functions of
the central building management (for example, monitoring of emissions in a production plant)
are necessary.
The system also permits modification or expansion of the functions by module extensions or
programme changes at a later date without wiring alterations. ALTENBURGER ELECTRONICS
offer their experience in the field of building automation systems as well as a qualified
service "on site" without limit for the basic hardware and software as well as for subsequent
modifications.
Digital transmission of all information by way of a two-wire bus (one pair of leads in reserve).
Decentralized circuit design, and thus low bus load.
Modular and installation components, suited for standard boxes or snap-on installation on
standard bus bars.
Centralized command input, with possibility of monitoring and recording.
Programming of addresses and application parameters by means of a personal computer as
stationary programming unit, or with the use of an ALTENBURGER programming unit.
TECHNICAL DATA: -
The Programmable Dimming Control Systems described here, operate within the European
Installation Bus System (EIBS.)
The system offers convenience in operation and service, highly decentralized operation, and
very simple installation and programming.
It permits the programming of a maximum of 12 light levels per circuit. The required number
of circuits can be combined for different lighting scenes. Fade times from scene to scene can
be set between 0 and 9999 seconds.
Scenes are called up via a Pushbutton operated Scene Selector Panel (size, colour and design
according to requirements.) Scene setting and fade time programming, is carried out via a
handheld wireless infrared transmitter, while the system's programming is done with the EIB
software (ETS.) All of these functions can also be accommodated with the aid of AV Touch
panels.
An automatic scene selection is provided by means of a clock, which is programmed at, and
incorporated into the (DRC) Dimmer Rack Cabinet.
THE PROGRAMMABLE DIMMING CONTROL SYSTEM IS WELL SUITED FOR THE CONTROL OF:
Incandescent lamps.
Low-voltage halogen lamps with wire-wound transformers.
Low-voltage halogen lamps with electronic transformers with 220V interface.
Low-voltage halogen lamps with electronic transformers with 1 to 10V interface.
Fluorescent lamps with electronic ballasts with 220 V interface.
Fluorescent lamps with wire-wound, pulse, or high frequency transformers in combination
with inductive ballasts.
Fluorescent lamps with electronic ballasts with 1 to 10Vinterface.
Fluorescent lamps with ballasts with digital interface.
Switching of non-dimmable lamp circuits.
Automatic master controls of circuits (such as for room subdivisions by folding Partitions) are
possible as required. Venetian blind controls, Photosensor-actuated controls, motion detectors
etc. can be integrated.
Incandescent lamps.
Halogen lamps.
How-voltage halogen lamps with wire-wound transformers.
Low-voltage halogen lamps with electronic transformers, being suitable for phase controls.
Neon lamps with transformers.
Fluorescent lamps with dimmable electronic ballasts and inductive ballasts.
Fluorescent lamps with wire-wound, pulse, or high frequency transformers in combination
with inductive ballasts.
Power Modules with closed housings for snap-on DIN rail mount, designed for standard "C "section rails, and in conformance with DIN 46277 are available in various ranges up to
2kW/KVA for Phase Control and up to 1.4kW for Phase-Interval Control (ALTOQUICK model
series AQ.)
Power Modules are also available in an open (unhoused) design. These Modules are of plug in
design and are uniform in size, for the power ranges of 2, 2x2, 3, 5, or 8kW/KVA with Phase
Control, and in 2kW design for Phase Interval Control. (Unhoused refers to the construction of
the TH Dimmer Module Series; however, they are usually installed within a suitable DRC.)
2. COMPACT DIMMING CONTROL SYSTEMS FOR DIMMABLE ELECTRONIC BALLASTS WITH LOW
VOLTAGE INTERFACE OR LOW VOLTAGE ACTUATION:
Fluorescent lamps and low-voltage halogen lamps with electronic ballasts with 1 to 10V
interface.
Electronic ballasts with digital interface.
These Modules likewise, are available with housings for DIN rail systems (ALTOQUICK model
series AQ-S).
The abovementioned dimming control modules are connected to the lamps being controlled,
and with the low-voltage EIB components for executing and transmitting the intended
function.
3. THE EIB SYSTEM, WHOSE ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS ARE ALSO ACCOMMODATED WITHIN
THE DRC'S OPERATE AS FOLLOWS:
All Data transmissions, as well as the bus voltage supply, proceed by way of a data bus with
two pairs of wires (2 x 2 x 0.8 mm) onto which the bus components are snapped on.
One pair of wires performs the actual functions; the other pair serves as a spare, for instance,
in case of damage to the first pair. If several data busses are necessary for distribution, the Ibus can be joined by means of Bus connectors.
The bus voltage supply (230V, primary; 24V, secondary) is drawn from the standard bus bar
by snap-on connection. The load maximum is 320mA (which corresponds to 64 dimming
actuators or sensors.) For heavier load requirements, additional voltage supply modules can
be installed. A choke module, is installed between the voltage supply and bus bar for coupling
the bus supply voltage onto the bus. This device protects data present on the bus from
interference by the current supply.
Within the DRC'S, the data is transmitted by way of the data bus; a self adhesive contact strip
which is applied to the DIN rail. Four conductive tracks are accommodated on this strip; when
the bus components are snapped onto the standard bus bar, they are connected with the
conductive tracks by means of contact pins. A direct voltage of 24V, is supplied from the bus
voltage supply unit by way of the outer two conductive tracks. This direct voltage is coupled
with the I-bus (the inner two conductive tracks) by means of the choke module.
3.3 ACTUATORS:
Actuators are employed for executing the respective light control commands or other control
functions and switching operations as desired.
The actuators, each of which constitutes an integral unit with a programmable bus coupler,
are connected with the data bus by snap on installation onto the DIN rail. Its purpose is the
conversion of signals received from sensors, (such as pushbuttons, switches, potentiometers,
photo sensors, or infrared detectors,) into that of programmed commands.
a) For dimming and switching in conjunction with phase, or phase-interval control modules.
b) For dimming and switching of Luminaires equipped with Dimmable ballasts with low
voltage interfaces, 1 - 10V.
c) For switching of lighting fixtures which are not intended for, or, are not capable of
dimming.
3.4 SENSORS:
Push Button Panels for the selection of a maximum of twelve lighting scenes and for gradual
variation of light levels with pushbuttons "UP" and "DOWN", as well as infrared remote
controls, which operate in parallel to the Push Button Panels and are equipped with the same
functions.
Infrared sensors with the respective associated decoding and programming unit (including
bus coupling.)
Photoelectric, temperature, wind, and humidity sensors, Push Button controls for Venetian
blinds, door and window contacts, etc.
3.5 DECODERS:
In the Chart Below, due to the immense size of the EIB System and it's Components, we have
listed very briefly, some of the components involved which make up the various and

EIB DIMMERS and EIB MULTI SENSOR CONTROLS offer two options in one (dual) system:
Static scenes. The respective selected scene remains static - unchanged, independent of
daylight and presence detection.
Dynamic scenes. These scenes remain static, only for as long as daylight does not exceed
the preset constant lighting level and for as long as motion is not detected. Artificial light
smoothly adjusts to the daylight for as long as motion is sensed. If no motion is detected, the
lighting will, following a delay preset time (can be set between 1 and 30 min.) be reduced to
1% - 2% of the preset maximum and finally will switch OFF completely after 10 min. (default
Setting,) or the time can be adjusted within the ETS Software, to any value between 1 - 255
minutes.
The two options (manual / automatic) are selected at the touch of a button, on the AV Touch
Screen.
