1. Define Telecommunication and Data Communication?
Telecommunication is the sending of information in any form (e.g. voice, data, text & images) from one place to another using electronic or light-emitting media. Data communication describes the transmitting and receiving of data over communication links between one or more computer systems and variety of input/output terminals.
2. Give four (4) importance of Telecommunication.
Ends user need to communicate electronically and share hardware, software
and data resources via LAN Ends user need to communicate electronically to succeed in todays global information society Need to electronically exchange data and information with other end user, customer, suppliers and other organizations Interconnect the computer systems of a business so that end users throughout an enterprise via LAN or internet can share their computing power.
3. There are three group categories in Telecommunication. Describe two
(2) group and example of Telecommunication. Enterprise Collaboration Systems is use telecommunications networks to support communication, coordination and collaboration among the members of business teams and workgroups. Example, employees and external consultants on a project team may use the internet, internets and extranets to support electronic mail, video conferencing, electronic discussion groups and multimedia Web pages to communicate and collaborate on business project. Electronic Commerce Systems is support the buying and selling of products, services and information over the internet and other computer networks. Example, a business could use the internet to give customers access to multimedia product catalogs on the www, use extranets so large customers access the companys inventory databases and use a corporate intranet so employees can easily look up customers record store on internet servers.
4. Identify and briefly only three (3) types of Telecommunications Network
Model. Terminal is any input/output device that used telecommunications network to transmit or received data. These include video terminal, office equipment, transaction terminals, telephone and microcomputer. Telecommunications processor is support data transmission and reception between terminals computer. These include modem, multiplexer and front-endprocessors. Telecommunications channels and media is part of telecommunications network that connect the message sources with the message receiver. There are includes copper wires/twisted pair wire, coaxial cables, fiber optics cables, microwave system and communication satellites.
5. Identify and briefly any THREE (3) types of communications network.
Local Area Network (LAN) connect computers and other information processing devices within a limited physical area, such as an office, a classroom, a building, manufacturing plant and other work site. Wide Area Network (WANs) is a telecommunication network that covers large geographical area or spans a large geographical distance. Internetworks are a linking of separate networks, each which retain its own identity, into an interconnected network.
6. Define and give advantage and disadvantage of star network.
Star network is a network topology in which all computer and other devices are connect to a central hub. The advantage of a star network is several users can use the central unit at the same time. The disadvantage of the star network is the whole network is affected if the main unit goes down.
7. Define and give FOUR (4) types of transmission mode.
Transmission mode is a signal that are transmitted through modem from one computer to another. Patterns or bits at a time irregular intervals. The types of transmission mode are asynchronous, synchronous, point-to-point lines and multidrop lines.
