Schedule:
Adjust daily schedule to include sufficient time to include
Adult-directed (intentional and purposeful) Small Group
time to facilitate development in Language and Literacy
Development (LLD)
Instructional M aterials:
Inventory and replenish instructional materials, which foster
the development in reciprocal communication, interest in
literacy, and recognition of symbols.
Teacher Directed and Student-Initiated Activities:
Include activities and strategies that are purposeful and
intentional during DLM Literacy Lesson Cycle (i.e. the use
of pausing, with the use of a stopwatch, to indicate turntaking; modeling the use of two to three word sentences, at
one time, that are all related to the same topic; use of flannel

Instructional M aterials:
Order sufficient books, pictures and language materials to
provide a variety of concrete experiences that facilitate the
awareness of other cultures and opportunities for the
children to become aware and exposed to the different of
cultures and to enhance their knowledge of the DLM
theme.
Provide sufficient items in order to be able to rotate
materials on a monthly basis.
Parent Information and Education:
Develop monthly parent meetings on the topics requested
by parents.
Post announcement of parent meetings two weeks prior the
actual meeting.
Invite outside speakers to share information with parents
about the topics indicated.
Create educational brochures to distribute to parents with
important information about topics of interest.
Reach out to local community agencies and learn about the
services they provide, share information with families.

Describe the Program Self-Evaluation Process (Note: This area expands as necessary.)
Program Action Plan:
The program action plan was developed using the Summary of Findings from each of the
following instruments: Desire Results Developmental Profile-Revised, Parent Survey and Early
Childhood Environmental Rating Scale. Staff identified a trend between the three instruments
and established a goal and objectives.
Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scales (ECERS-R):
An ECERS-R was completed for 5 classrooms, two items scored at a rating of 5 or less for the
classroom. The items and the actions steps taken are identified on the attachment.
