Displacement step diagram is designed.

Pneumatic and electric circuit diagram is designed.
The construction of pneumatic and electric circuit has been carried out.
The sequential motion control system is implemented and test run is conducted
The sequence of the circuit is check and trouble shoot to avoid any problems from

occurred.
6. The performance of the system is demonstrated.

Displacement step diagram:

Since there are 2 acting cylinder are used, the sequence of both cylinder follow the
following step diagram:
x
A
B
t
Where A is the double acting cylinder which extended first then went back to extract
position which triggered the single acting cylinder, B to extend and then extract as A. The
returning of the single acting cylinder to extracted position will repeat the cycle again. The
cycle repeat continuously except the cycle is stop manually.

4.0 RESULTS REPORT

4

For starting position, both of Piston A and B (double acting cylinder) retract at its end
position. After the push button has been turn ON, the time will delay about 5 second before
Piston A extend outward meanwhile the piston B will stay at its position until the Piston A
touch the limit switch B . During this position, the switch B is closed which mean there is a
flowing current from the power supply to operate the Piston B to extend outward. For the
other condition which is the piston A is extracted, the piston B will extend.

Condition 1 (Piston A: Extend, Piston B: Retract)

For this condition, after the time delay about 5 second, the solenoid will active so that the
Piston A will extend until its touch limit switch B. The light indicator no 4 at panel will be
turn ON.

Light indicator 4 will be turn ON as the solenoid 1 is operating the Piston A in extend
movement.

Condition 2 (Piston A: Retract, Piston B: Extend)

For this condition, after the limit switch B was touch by Piston A, it will directly active the
solenoid valve 2 so that the Piston B will be extend until it touch limit switch D, so that the
solenoid valve 1 will be active. Limit Switch D is triggered resulting the electric valve switch
to turn on and change the air from the solenoid valve 1 which will result in change in air flow
to reverse direction into the piston A. Piston A will retract with buzzer sound meanwhile
piston B will extend at the same moment.
As for the complete result, the system will carry on run on automatically until the main
switch is turned off which will resulting no current flow in the circuit and thus stopping the
system to automatically run itself in a loop.

The light indicator 8 will be turn on as the solenoid valve 2 is operating the Piston B in
extend movement.

For convenience, the electrical schematic is shown in both ISO and ANSI configurations. A
logical progression from here would be to write a PLC program to operate the same circuit
and eliminate the relay logic. By referring to the case study, piston A must extend first. After
Piston A is retract back to the original position, the piston B will extend immediately. When
the Piston B retracts, the Piston A extends again. This loop will continuously flow as long as
the current is not switch off. We also design the system using our creativity by adding the
relay as switch, adding buzzer as a retract sound, adding light indicator as the solenoid
operating the piston for both extend and retract. Furthermore, we also include a time delay for
5 second before the system start operates. As a suggestion for the improvement of the system
through what we have done, we can see that there are many equipment that cannot be used
from the cylinder till the valves. Some of the double acting cylinders are not capable to
retract back although we have connected a direct join from the source to the air port. While
for the valves, some are okay and some are not. We can see that some of the valve does not
operate as it should be. Some of it stuck at the air port due to out-dated period of pipe air.
When it gets old enough, it will become decays and easy to break when we try to join to air
port, and by this the compressed air cannot enter due to failure in join connection. As a
suggestion, we recommend a replacement for better quality equipment not only for our use,
but for others and also save times.

6.0 CONCLUSION
9

Based on the result above we can conclude that the experiment is succeeded. We
managed to assemble and run as how it should be and also design the system using our
creativity. We also have achieved the objectives of this experiment by identifying the function
of each electro pneumatic components, studied and constructed the pneumatic and electric
circuit diagram, analyse the sequential motion of the pneumatic and electric circuit diagram,
and understand the symbol of each pneumatic and electrical component.
