Prevention is better than cure

Introduction :
Preventive maintenance is a schedule of planned maintenance actions
aimed at the prevention of breakdowns and failures. Work undertaken in
order to keep or restore every facility to an acceptable working
conditions.
Maintenance scheduling is the process of assigning resources and
manpower for jobs to be accomplished at certain times. It is necessary to
ensure that the needed craftsmen, the arts and materials required are
available before a maintenance task can be scheduled.

How ATS carry out PPM safely and effectively

1. Equipment must be maintained, Repaired or replaced according to
the manufacturers recommendations and operating maintenance
manual.
2. ATS PPM checklist to be used during the maintenance, follow the
sequence and safety measures.
3. Safety system of work must be followed such as permit to work (for
high risk operations eg. Work at height, electrical work, confined
space entry, Chemical handling etc.. ) look out and tag out system,
machine guards, material safety , SOP and appropriate PPE(personal
protective equipment) etc..
4. Be familiar with work site and surrounding, equipment, exit routes,
first aid and fire extinguishers locations.
5. Ensure all the required tools, materials, spare parts and PPE are
available at the worksite before starting the PPM
6. Conduct system checks to ensure all features especially safety
devices are functioning properly.
7. Area should be protected / barricaded with warning signs
8. Use right first time (RFT) techniques and there should be zero
rework.
9. Site engineer or supervisor must be checked and verified the PPM
works.
10.
Pre-determined part replacement should be minimal and done
only where evidence clearly indicates wear out characteristics.
11.
PPM observations to be analyzed by the site engineer or
supervisor
12.
Housekeeping must be done after completion of work.
