ADVERTISING THE WARS MISBEHAVIOUR OF GLOBAL MAINSTREAM MEDIA

Maybe it is not so visible at the first sight, but World War III and Cold War II began long ago.
Ideologies of war overtook ideologies of neoliberal marketing and advertising: Less is more. Paraphrased, it
can be said: lots of small wars can be started instead of one big war, but at the end it is like winning one big
war, without announcing it. It is easier, more safe and more lucreative. There is no prefix world, so it is easier
for those who start the small wars they would also start a big one, too. Apart of an old, but still working
strategy Divide et impera, the war lords are also using media as help. Global mainstream media serve to
promote a number of local wars, some of them so called civil wars, some of them wars against terror. The
most of news broadcasted by global mainstream media are news on wars. Following so called political
correctness in an bizzare situation, they broadcast news from both sides in war. The issue of political
correctness is to be researched separately, as the weapon of psychological manipulation and raping the
language communication. Back to the subject of broadcasting news from the both sides in wars.
Again, global media use neoliberal marketing/advertising strategy of co-branding. The smaller and not
so recognized brand is promoted side by side with the bigger one to make it bigger and better known. So, if
US (well known brand) leads, so called war on terror in Afghanistan, Al Quaeda (smaller brand) is promoted as
the enemy and the target in the proclaimed war on terror. If there is a war against the legitimate states in The
Middle East because of their possession of so called weapons of mass destruction, which is euphemism for
nuclear bomb, there is a promotion of ISIS (smaller brand). Yes, those were legitimate states, both Iraq and
Sirya. For years, the governments and presidents of those countries were legitimate allies, on the highest
levels. If there is a war in Northern Africa, named civil war or war on terror, there is, again, promotion of some
group, very unknown and obscure and puff!, in a blink of an eye, after being presented in the global
mainstream media, it becomes legitimate power to fight against. From Boko Haram to Al Shabaab. No chance
that global warlords did not know the outcome. Because they sold them weapons in the first place.
Using another advertising strategy that even the bad commercial is a good propaganda, global
mainstream media give even more power to so called terrorist groups, than to those so called terror fighters.
As many philosophers claim, what is absent is sometimes even more important than what is present. Since
global mainstream media are not so innovative, they start to appear as regular public relations officers for both
sides in the different, small, proxy or not proxy wars. In the sam manner, in the same news, in the same words
or images. They announce so called antiterrorist activities or uncompromising fight against terrorists. At the
same time, they promote those who are named terrorists.
There is an instructive story about Genghis Khan and one of his war winning strategies. It is said that,
several days before every battle, Genghis Khan was sending a small group of horsemen, skilled in
communications and acting, to the cities he had had intention to conquer. Their misison was to spread fear
among citizens. They were sent to visit taverns, public places, to act like there are frightened themselves, to
tell stories that they somehow succeeded to escape from the previous city, demolished by Genghis Kahn and
his army. After days of that psychological war, after spreading fear of ruthlessness and power of Genghes
Khan and his army, it was always possible for him to come to the city and conquer it with ease and less
soldiers than anyone expected. Traumatized and led by fear, citizens of the conquered cities were easily
manipulated and their only concern was to save their lives. Small number of them was ready to fight, to protect
properties, to resist. As being very evil master, but good in wars, fear helped Genghes Khan to win the battles
easy, to have lots of soldiers fit and not even wounded, to deploy less weapons and men than he would really
need. All of that, thanks to his vanguard propaganda unit.
Back to the present: who gave significance and propaganda power to Al Quaeda, Boko Haram, Al
Shabaab, ISIS? It is a matter of numbers and statistics to count media share and presence of those groups in
global mainstream media, comparing to some other kind of news and issues relevant to the world and
humanity. And, if the World War III and Cold War II are not so visible, just count the media share for war
advertising and the number of dead across The Globe.
