CASE 1
1. I dont think Monsanto has maintained an ethical culture that guarantees or
satisfies its stakeholders. Even though the company has tried to stay truthful
with its stakeholders, Monsanto has continued to receive bad reputation about
its products and a large number of critics, who bring accusations towards the
company like manipulative behavior towards farmers, bribery, harassing
farmers. This type of behavior is a violation of the Monsanto patents laws which
has caused the companys stocks to decrease in a large amount. Monsanto has
also been accused of threatening the health of the environment and its
population by soliciting and selling its products that have been augured by critics
to be harmful to plants and living creatures. I think that Monsanto should stop
ignoring its environmental issues and address them firsthand. The company on
profit and not concerned about the health issues their products will and have
caused.
2. The benefits of growing GM seeds for crops can increase crop yields. Farmers
who adopt the technology and purchase GM seeds can grow more crops on less
and increasing crop yields. The use of this technology will increase crops
productivity without taking up more land, helping meet the worlds growing
agricultural needs. Another benefit is implanting seeds with the genes that will
kill bugs and creating seeds containing the herbicide Roundup to kill weeds, but
spare the crops. The potentially negative usage of GM seeds can also effect the
environment and population well-being. The use of GM seeds can be harmful to
Bees, and other insects, and wind they carry crop seeds to other areas that
contain non-GM crops. This can potential mix farmers organic crops. Another is
the resistance of weed and insect to the herbicides and pesticides used on
Monsanto crops. With the allowance of pollen, Bees and other insects to travel
with GM seeds can be harmful to animals and human who consume crops from
these farmers.
3. The only way I can identify managing the potential harm to plants and animal life
from using products such as Roundup is to completely discontinue the product
and find a more environmental safe product. If this is not an option, then the
company should place potential warning on the usage of its products. It has
been proven that the chemicals in the Roundup products has effected the animal
life such as birds, insects, and tadpoles. Other studies have shown that Roundup
can potential effect the human cell if too much is consumed. I feel as though
anything that can be potentially harmful to any living creature should be enough
to stop polluting the environments. Not to mention what is involved in the
production of this type of poisons.
