Welcome to Hannover!

Dear Erasmus/Leonardo Interns in Hannover,

We hope that your time in Hannover is filled with new and exciting experiences and that you
can make new friends along the way. The purpose of this letter is to give you some insight to
a number of rich cultural and social events offered in Hannover.
We hope you enjoy your stay in Lower Saxonys capitol and make the most of it!

Sightseeing
Maschsee, City Hall (neues Rathaus),
Limmerstrae or Lister Meile here you
can either get to know Hannovers history,
walk around the Royal Gardens or just
enjoy coffee in a cosy place. Below I have
listed some things, which you might find
interesting.

Der rote Faden


There is a red line, which leads to all
important sightseeing places in Hannover.
Just follow it, by bike or take a walk!

Conti Campus

Limmerstrae
Go for a walk on the Limmerstrae in
Linden, you will find international shops
next to shabby nail studios and hip cafs.
There is always something going on at this
street. Search for Limmerstrae, Hannover
on googlemaps

Lister Meile
In this part of town you will meet a lot of
children and parents. There are some nice
cafs and shops on the Lister Meile, just
go for a walk! Search for Lister Meile on

Climb the highest floor of the highest


building at Knigswortherplatz and enjoy
the view over Hannover!

Maschsee

Engelbosteler Damm

Royal Gardens

This street in the northern part of


Hannover is comparable to the
Limmerstrae, but you probably will find
more bicycle and book shops. Go to the
area around the Lutherkirche for lunch,
you can choose between soup, curry and
bagels in tiny restaurants.

Hannover has many different parks to


offer. You can go for a walk around the
University in Georgengarten and after a
while you will come to the
Herrenhusergrten. You have to pay an
entry fee to see the Botanical Gardens
and one part of the Royal Gardens in
wintertime it is free.

Cinema
Apart from the three cinemas there are
also some tiny playhouses around the city.

A tiny cinema that shows movies far off
from the mainstream - sometimes
presented in the original language.

Take a walk around the gardens and have

Kestnergesellschaft
If you like modern art, you have to visit
Kestnergesellschaft.
Once paid for a ticket, keep it, you can use
it again and see the current exhibition as

A cosy little caf on the Limmerstrae.

Spandau
A great place to sit at night with your
friends, drinking cocktails and chatting.
They also have a tiny beach bar in Linden
which is only open in summer.

Landesmuseum
The national museum of Lower Saxony
find out more about people in the Middle
Ages, archaeological artefacts, fossils and
artwork ranging from baroque to

Sprengel Museum
The biggest museum of art in Hannover: It
is always worth it to check the current
exhibitions. Fridays entry is for free!

Wilhelm Busch Museum


Do you know Max&Moritz two guys who
like to play pranks? The Wilhelm Busch
Museum is about cartoon characters and

Party
There are some clubs in Hannover where
you will meet a lot of people during the
week; it seems like all of Hannover sticks
to this plan. Coming closer to the
weekend, there are more possibilities to
go out, but also more expensive ones.

club near the main station unbelievably
crowded on Mondays.

If you want to listen to live music while you
are stuck between people and are barely
able to breath - visit the Caf Glocksee on
Tuesdays. Great fun!

Wednesday: Linden Lounge


If you like electronic music, dancing or
chatting with people in a nice atmosphere
go to Faust/Mephisto in Linden on
Wednesdays. It starts to get crowded at
1:30 at night, so dont come too early.

If you dont like to be surprised concerning

Nothing going on?


Get all your friends together and visit the clubs at
Steintor but take care, it can get really messy.
Maybe not the right thing for people preferring to
drink cocktails in a nice bar or watching a movie in
the cinema.

Markets
There is also a farmers market in
Hannover. Check out on the internet when
the market is around your place!
