0 Introduction
According to Richard (1990), classroom management consider as the organization
and teacher control over students behaviour. In my opinion an organised classroom
management contributes to higher academic achievement as well as less disciplinary
problem which lead to the problematic behaviour in the classroom. If the teacher fails in
planning the classroom management it will gather a huge impact on the students behaviour.
1.1 Review of article
When we flip through the news paper articles there was news on students
disciplinary problem as well as their problematic behaviour in the classroom. Recently I
found a news article on internet (straits times) which is on bullying case involving school girls
in Petaling Jaya. This incident happens on Jun 2013. In this report we can see that a
schoolgirl being brutally set upon by a group of female schoolmates which has gone viral in
Malaysia and is now the subject of police investigation. Through this news paper article we
can see that the girls who are the bullies suddenly gang up and began to attack the victim
who was standing among the group. The bullies also tear off the victims headscarf and the
attackers were also seen dragging and kicking and pulling the victims hair. This causes the
victim to endure the endless pain and in the end appeared to be in tears which were
overwhelming to most of us. It is very sad to see how school students especially girls involve
in this case which cause many question to be pop out in every parents mind.
2.0 Causes and ways to overcome disciplinary problems and the problematic
behaviour in the classroom.
When we look deeply in this situation there are many causes which drive to this
disciplinary problem. Although there are some causes which look complicated but it is a
teachers responsibility to think in a creative and unique way to overcome this disciplinary
problem in classroom.
2.1 Bullies have immature skills
As we look deep into the recent bully issues, we can see that the bullies were
displaying immature skills which cause them to react violently towards their friends. In this
context immature skills refers to the weak interpersonal relationship that lead to the negative
perception such as purposely picking fight with someone or unable to accept their weakness
which can cause a huge dissatisfaction among their friend. Moreover if a child believes that
other children are more aggressive and powerful, they will become insecure and in order to

overcome this they become a bully to show that they are stronger beyond their physical
appearance.
In order to overcome these immature skills, I as a future teacher will make sure that
my student would able to communicate with their peers in a really good manner. According
to John Powell (1963) communication works for those who work at it and I personally felt that
it is true because when student talk to each other they would able to solve any problem. I will
implement this in my teaching through cooperative learning. For example if I wanted my
students to discuss about a topic, I will divide them into a mixed group so that they can
develop their interpersonal skills. By communicating with others they would able to express
their feeling and others opinion in a good way.
I will also introduce the term give respect take respect which allows the student to
respect other feelings as they respect themselves. Referring to the news article, we can see
that the bully does not respect the victims feeling and cause the victim to endure the
endless pain. Through cooperative learning that I suggested above will make the students to
develop their interpersonal relationship and they also would be able to express their feeling
in a polite manner whenever there is dissatisfaction among themselves. In addition
cooperative learning would be the best way to overcome the immature skills among the
bullies.
2.2 Lack of attention from their surrounding
Bullies are usually attention seekers because they were lacking attention from their
surroundings. From the news article we might conclude that the bully does not get the
attention and the care from their parents, teacher or the society. This causes her to act
violently to express her feeling towards her friends.
In my point of view, I as a teacher will give these type of children the attention by
engaging themselves through my lesson. I will do this by choosing them as a good leader,
helper and a great student in my classroom. For example if I am having problem to control
the students in the classroom, I will appoint the student as a leader to control the class for
me which can help them to know that the teacher is aware about he/her presence in the
classroom. In that way they would concentrate more on my lesson rather than misbehaving
in my class.
Moreover I as a teacher will avoid doing comparison between their friends which will
make them to create a distance with their friends and the teacher.

For example if a

problematic student misbehave in my classroom I will not compare him with the good ones

and scold him in front of the class but I will see him personally and talk about his mistakes
and the consequences that he might be facing if he repeat it in future. In this way they can
carry themselves in a good manner and become a good student in my classroom.
2.3 A bully has not learned empathy and compassion.
In my point of view, most of the bullies actions are due to the anger, frustration and
lack of attention that can be seen in them. When they could not express it in a correct way
they tend to hit others to satisfy themselves. The value of empathy and compassion was not
in themselves because they never experience it before in their life.
I as a teacher will overcome these issue by telling them short story which highlights
the important moral values and principle of life that we as a human being should have.
According to Sophie Kinsella (2010) literature can heal a person internally because stories
which are a part of literature would make the students to generate their thinking skills by
comparing their situation to the stories. From this, student would be able to feel empathy and
compassion towards the character of the stories. For example if a student listen to the story
Cinderella they would imagine themselves as the main character which can make the
student to think and feel bad for the lead character. In this way they would become more
emphatic and they will know that things and action that hurts them hurts others too.
Besides that I will carried out activities such as role play which can cause them to put
themselves in the character of the story to express their feelings. Activities like role play
would help the student to be more emphatic and compassion because they would be able to
express the feeling and the emotion of the character as if he/she is in that story. Therefore I
as a future teacher telling stories and engaging them in role play activity will make the
student to become empathic and compassionate person in order to overcome the
disciplinary problem in the classroom.
2.4 Lack of the ability to self-regulate emotion
Bullies usually lack of the abilities to self regulate their emotions. They tend to
express their anger without knowing that the actions that they took in an instable condition
will cause a huge impact in their life. Based on the news paper article, the action that taken
by the bully causes her life to be miserable because it became a viral issue in this country.
In my point of view, I as a teacher will make sure that my students able to control
their anger by giving them opportunity to voice out their dissatisfaction in the classroom. This
can be done once in a week to ensure the student in a calm situation and not distracted by
the unnecessary things. I will let my students to write out their problems in a small piece of

paper and I will read it personally to know my students current condition and to be aware on
the actions that I should take to help my student to overcome their problem. Through this,
student will able to let out their anger through the words and not by involving in discipline
problems. This also will help them to calm themselves before taking hasty action which will
put them into trouble. Through this writing they would control their anger and I as a facilitator
will help him to manage his problem effectively. If I found the student have a major problem, I
will call him personally and talk to him so that I can know the problem that he is facing in his
life. If there is no one to listen to their problem they would be taking dangerous actions which
can bring to a serious discipline problem among the students. In addition I as a teacher will
be a good listener in order to help my student to control their anger.
2.5 Self centred and neglectful parents
Parents who neglect their kids in their young age would make their child to involve in
the disciplinary problem. They would think that their parent does not have any interest in
their life so they started to take charge of their life in their own way. They think that they are
powerful and no one can stop them and this eventually to cause injury to their friends for
their own pleasure. To avoid this kind of behaviour, I as a teacher will introduce the reward
and the punishment system in my classroom. According to Daniel C. Finley(2011) rewards
and punishment can be used as a tool to meet our teaching objectives and I personally think
that it is an effective way to attract students attention because it increases students desire to
study in the classroom. I will come out with several rules in my classroom that the student
should follow in order to avoid discipline problem in classroom. If the students able to
respect and follow all the rules, I would give them small gift or motivation stickers as the
token of appreciation so that they will continue to keep up with their good work. If the student
fails to follow the rules I will give them punishment such as giving extra homework and
detention classes as a positive reinforcement to make them realise and aware about their
mistakes so that they will not repeat it again. Therefore I will implement the rewards and the
punishment system in my classroom in order to make my student to not involve n discipline
problem.
3.0 Conclusion
As a conclusion, a teacher is the one who can change a students life. Since they are
a gift from god we as a teacher should guide them and make them as a good human being
who can contribute well to the family, society, and the country. So, we as a teacher should
not feel burdened of our responsibility but we should be more grateful to have the
opportunity because we are the one who can help a student to succeed in their life.
