ANNOUNCING THE GOOD NEWS

He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will

suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and
repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached
in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

AFFORDABLE CHRIST-CENTERED CAMPING FOR MEN AND BOYS

CAMP WILDERNESS RIDGE
Wilderness Ridge was founded in 1987 by a group of Christian men who wanted to
give boys a camping experience that would introduce them to Jesus Christ and
show them how to be Godly men in today’s world. Seven acres in the Lost Pines
Forest were purchased near Smithville, Texas, and the camp has grown to our
present-day 95 acres, where we continue to keep the legacy alive for
“affordable, Christ-centered wilderness camping for men and boys.”

The Journey – Announcing the Good News
Dear Parent,
It’s about leading boys to Jesus Christ at Camp Wilderness Ridge!
We can meet your expectations of excitement by coupling fast-paced outdoor adventures with an atmosphere where Christianity (following
Jesus Christ) is taught in word and action by our committed staff, all in the midst of God’s beautiful creation… among the tall pine trees of
the Lost Pines Forest, just west of Smithville, Texas.
Many activities are designed to teach teamwork and trust, from crazy relays
and rope course challenges to cabin clean-up. Your son will actively en-
gage with hands-on opportunities to use imagination, solve problems, make
decisions, and participate in carefully designed “perceived” risks. Your son
will grow from the inside out. It is our desire to encourage campers to live a
REAL, pure, and exciting life in Jesus Christ.
We define REAL…
Reproducing other Disciples Matthew 28: 18-20
Esteeming God above all Mark 12:30
Announcing the Good News Luke 24:46-47
Living for Others Mark 10:45
This summer we are Announcing the Good News... He told them, “This is
what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all na-
tions, beginning at Jerusalem” (Luke 24: 46-47). We intertwine this teaching
into everything we do during the week.
We are excited about partnering with you to encourage your boys and young
men on their spiritual journey. Thanks for entrusting them to us. We will take good care of them.

Ron Hunt, Camp Director

P.S. You will find that we offer an exceptional program at a very affordable price. Yes, we do have scholarships available. Woodsman Camps
were all full last summer; register early!!! Maximum per session is 48 campers staying in one of six open-air cabins (8 campers per cabin).

Servant and Leadership Trainees
(SALT)
“You are the SALT of the earth.”
– Jesus to his followers, Matthew 5:13
WHY?
Jesus said, “whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and
whoever wants to be first must be your slave — just as the Son of Man did not come
to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:26-
28) By following the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, you impact the lives of many
boys, youth, and adults through your commitment. You gain an understanding of
what it means to be a servant-leader. Campers’ lives could not be changed without
SALT’ees doing their part.

WHAT?
Serving others and ministering the love of Christ at camp will be done through do-
ing maintenance and general work for camp upkeep, setting up and cleaning up
program activities, working with food service and other support needs, remember-
ing that the campers and staff are watching. SALT’ees (16-17 year old) can also be
selected to work with a Servant-Leader who is responsible for a group of 8 campers
including staying in their cabin. Your day will begin with staff devotions and an in-
dividual quiet time. Also, you will have Bible Study, fellowship, and worship times.
You are accountable to the SALT Director for your attitude and performance.

www.wildernessridge.com
WHO?
Any male 14 - 17 years old who is dedicated to following Jesus Christ and seeking
Him sincerely and enjoys the outdoors will be considered as a SALT’ee. You need
to have a desire to fulfill the call of God in campers’ lives. You are expected to be
obedient and to observe all camp rules and behavior expectations of CWR and fol-
low a very disciplined schedule. SALT’ee selection is based on a personal interview,
reference responses and performance during training. Previous years’ experience at
CWR will factor into final selection decisions.

HOW?
First, contact the CWR office by e-mail (sandy@wildernessridge.com) or phone
(512-775-8312, Sandy Hunt) to request a SALT 2010 Application packet. There is no
charge to you to be a SALT’ee. It is the policy of Wilderness Ridge that staff members
develop their own financial support team. We encourage each SALT’ee to develop
his own ministry team to join with him by their prayers and financial investments to
cover his salary. Salary targets: $100 to $200 per week based upon experience.

COMMITMENT?
You are expected to commit to a min-
imum of two consecutive weeks of
service. There will be a training ses-
sion you must attend and you will
also be sent training materials that
need to be completed and returned
to CWR. The first week of your commitment you will need to attend a
training session on Saturday that will start at 3 p.m., with your arrival by 2 p.m. to
unload and get settled. Your week ends Friday evening following the Parent Dinner
and closing ceremonies. You will be expected to stay and help put up and clean-up.
You will be able to leave when you have been released by the SALT Director.

Will you join us?

WE’RE GOING TO PRODUCE
A MUSIC VIDEO!!!
Young men come to this camp to learn about video production (videographers) or to learn “how to” create original music (musicians) and
participate in the music video. The Servant-Leaders for this camp have video and musical experience and have received high recognition in
both fields.

Videographers will have “hands-on” music video production: project planning, camera techniques (pan/zoom, focus/special effects), light-
ing (sunlight/room light), high quality sound capture, and film copy editing to produce a finished film. Video camera, sound and lighting
equipment and video editing system are all provided. Campers are welcome to bring their own digital camera.

Musicians will create original music and be filmed while performing that music. Campers will be vocalists and/or play musical instrument(s)
and must bring their own instrument(s) (guitar, bass horn, etc.). A drum set and electronic keyboard can be provided upon request.

The young men will also participate in daily devotionals, camp fire talks and cabin discussions relevant to today’s youth. They will enjoy
the many recreational activities and individual or team challenges along side the participants of our Young Man Challenge Camp.

Ages: 14-17 years old

FAQ’s
How does my son request a specific cabin mate? He may request up to two cabin mates on his registration form. The request must be made in advance and
mutual from all parties.

How do I communicate with my son while he’s at camp? Campers enjoy getting mail at camp. In addition, we provide a free e-mail service that allows
you to send e-mails to your camper during their week but it is only one-way. He will not be able to respond. Also, no phone calls to your camper. Even the most content
camper will feel a sense of homesickness after a phone call.

Can I send a care package to my son? Certainly, campers love getting something from home, but remember he’s only here a week. Please do not send gum,
food, drinks, fireworks, candy or silly string. We appreciate your help as food is not allowed in the cabins because it draws critters. You are welcome to leave packages in
the camp office before your departure on Sunday.

What about my son’s spending money? We recommend that campers bring $25 for snacks, toiletries and gifts at our Canteen. This money is “checked-in”
upon camp arrival and each day the camper can spend on his account. Unused funds may be picked up before departure.

What should my son pack for camp? A detailed list will be included in your Camper Information Packet and sent to you after receipt of the camper
registration. Just remember, the most important things are old clothes, socks, toiletries, socks, extra old (closed toe) shoes, socks, etc. Mark all items with his last name.

What should my son NOT bring to camp? Snacks & other foods items, CD player, cell phone; radio, MP3 player, Gameboy or other electronic games, guns,
or anything expensive or illegal. If these items make it to camp, they will be confiscated and returned to a parent or guardian upon departure. Illegal materials will be
reported to the police department.

What will you be sharing with my child in your Bible messages and quiet times? Through morning devotions, Cabin Bible Study, skits/dramas and
campfire gatherings, we will share many different stories and lessons from the Bible. At least once during the week we will present the Gospel, which means that we share
with campers the fact that we are sinners (Romans 3:23), Jesus came to save us from our sins (1 Timothy 1:15), and all we have to do to be saved from our sin is trust Jesus
Christ (John 3:16). This Good News from the Bible will usually be presented in Cabin Bible Study by the Servant-Leader, and we do not pressure campers to make any
spiritual decisions.
