THE RISE, DEMISE AND REBIRTH OF STEED BEATLEY AND MINIMAL PENIS STEED BEATLEY, lead singer/songwriter of seminal 70s-80s hard rock band MINIMAL PENIS is living a life of casual debauchery and diminished celebrity as a tax exile in Lyford Cay, The Bahamas, when he gets a phone call from his longtime business manager KEITH ZEBB notifying him that his fortune, which was entirely invested in BERNARD MADOFFS fund, is completely gone, rendering STEED insolvent. After an appropriate period of alcohol-and-sex-fueled grief, STEED comes to terms with his insolvency and embarks on a path to get the band back together, reclaim their former popularity and remake his fortune. But times and tastes have changed drastically since his salad days twenty years ago and so too have his bandmates who are all far more successful than STEED having done something constructive with themselves after the band and are reluctant to get back into the music business. In his quest to get the band back together, STEED enlists the help of ZEBB, his touring agent MOSHE BERGEN and love interest FIONA MCPHERSON to convince LEAD GUITARIST NIGEL LAWLESS (now SIR NIGEL LAWLESS, TORY MP for Kensington and Chelsea, married to LADY GOLDSMITH); BASSIST TED MCDAINT (a successful Adult Film Producer based in Calabasas, CA); DRUMMER ALEX YOKO (now a Tokyo-based gynecologist), and; KEYBOARDIST ZAAD ANN DE SCHEDE (now the cross-dressing host of the top political/current affairs show in The Netherlands, ZONDAG OCHTEND MET ZAAD ANN DE SCHEDE) to reform MINIMAL PENIS. With the band back together (at least tentatively) and in LA to record their first album in 25 years for their once and future label SPAWN RECORDINGS, STEED and MINIMAL PENIS struggle to come to terms with the promotional opportunities and challenges modern music business, the creative process, the temptations of the Rock and Roll lifestyle, age, conflict created by ALEXs Yoko Ono-like wife OKO, and the expectations of audience, their agent, manager and most important, themselves.
Everything comes to a head for the band as they prepare for
the simultaneous release of their album and their headline gig at the 2010 COACHELLA FESTIVAL. Can STEED straighten out? Does MINIMAL PENIS have what it takes to make it with todays fans? Can they put the problems of the past behind them and make great music? Will it sell? Will the band stay together? Will STEED settle down with FIONA? Or will STEED be ostracized from the music business, his fans and friends for a wasted effort and end up playing weddings and Bat Mitzvahs to survive?
