introductionofvariousotherwordsfromthenativelanguage.
Throughvariousmethodsofrepetitionprovidedbytheinstructor,studentswillthen
proceedtosimulatetherhythmontheirowninstruments.
Piano
Thesyllabusforpianowilldependuponthestudentsknowledgeoftheinstrument.Theywill
begroupedaccordingly.Thenwewillbeabletomeasurethescopeoftheirknowledgeand
willbeabletoproceedtopianostudies.
Inthissyllabuschildrenaretaughtthebasicsofthekeyboardintroducingthemtothethree
blackskeysandthemiddleCthenattheendoftheclass,theyshouldbeabletoplayabasic
tuneaccompaniedbyacdorabacktrack.Thebacktrackwillbeprovidedbytheinstructor.
Aural
Skill
theabilitytolistenintelligentlytomusicandtounderstandwhathasbeenheard
formsavitalpartofthetrainingofmusiciansatalllevels.Theassessmentofthisskillensure
thatisisdevelopedalongsideinstrumentalability.
Theywillbegivenmultipletesttotesttheirauralability.Theywillbetaughtaboutbasictime
signature,keysignature,notevalues,style,andarticulation.Theyshouldbeableto
differentiateandanalyseapiecewhengivenatest.
SightReading
theabilitytosightreadandplaysimultaneously.Studentswillbegivenaset
ofpiecetoread.Theywillbegivenexactlyoneminutetoanalyzethepiece.Inthisone
minute,studentsshouldbeabletoscoupethetimesignature,keysignature,theaccidentals,
andtheproperrhythmandexecuteitascleanlyaspossible.
Theory
Inorderforthestudentstounderstandandanalyzewhatisbehindthemusic,first
theymustlearnbasictheory.Basictheorygivesthemtheknowledgeandconfidenceto
answercorrectlythequestionthatwillbeaskedinauraltests.Intheoryweteachthemthe
languageofmusic.Theywillbegiventheappropriateskillsetsinorderforthemtoprogress
ontheinstrument.Successfullycompletingthetheorybook,willensurethemtoabroader
understandingofmusicandwillbeabletoanalyzeandgivetheiropinionregardingacertain
pieceofmusicifasked.
