Course Description

Child and Adolescent Development


PED 12
3 Units

This course discusses about the child and adolescent development. It encompasses the classroom discussion on the cognitive, affective and psychomotor development. Likewise, research was made as a tool in
this course to explore and discover potential areas of the child and adolescent whose phases of development in the course of their growing stages in the life-span of the child & adolescent will be cultured in the classroom
teaching learning experience.
Course Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the unit, 100% of the students should master the 95% of the lessons. The students are expected to:

Understand and develop a research project that is relevant to the vital development of the nation and the community to where he/she belong;
Build-up a tacit knowledge from theory to practice into a practicable solution to the timely demand of environmental and food security issues;
Encourage and develop a scientific knowledge to work with the basic, applied and action researches relevant to the technocratic advancement and national development;
Explore and discover some child and adolescent development issues on the areas of physiological, intellectual, psycho-social, cultural and emotional storm and stresses of growth and
development;
5. Acquaint and be familiar the theory on cross-sectional, longitudinal and cross-sequential designs of development;
6. Instill the significant of the mechanism of heredity and environment; prenatal development; parenting styles and social-emotional development and the formation of gender identity and
gender role.
Affective
1. Appreciate and develop a sense of eagerness to work with research enthusiasts by engaging relative problems encountered by the demand of schooling, environment, food security and
etcetera within the glocal demand;
2. Imbue and aspire to become research enthusiasts by developing an academic instructional environment of research in the field of academe;
3. Feel and be aware the different levels of physical, intellectual (mental), moral and social development of a child and the adolescent age;
4. Appreciate the theories introduced by Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson, Gardner, Kohlberg, Sternberg, Bandura, constructivist and other theorists in the development of the child and adolescent
learners in the classrooms.

1. Write, develop and produce an intelligent basic, applied and action research paper or manuscript relevant to the development of the school, community and the country; publication;
2. Come-up consistently the relevant issues by writing a manuscript/ a paper;

ATTENDANCE POLICIES:
1. Students are expected to attend all classes. Student who is absent more than 20% of the total number of classes hours (54hour in a 3 unit course) may be dropped from the

2. Any student who finds it very important to be absent from class must present an excuse letter or a medical certificate to his/her instructor/professor.
3. Class Hours Lost by Late registration are considered as absences

Wearing the prescribed uniform and identification card is a must
TEXTING:
Texting inside the classroom is strictly prohibited unless it is an emergency. Cellphones should be in silent mode inside the classroom.
CLEANLINESS INSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Students are expected to participate in the cleanliness inside the classroom and should maintain the rooms clean as they come and go.
