MANNY SILVERSTEIN

Bassist Producer Engineer

Biography
Raised just north of New York City, music has always been a large part of Manny
Silverstein's life. A piano player as a child, Silverstein took up the bass guitar just
before high school. In addition to performing in school groups, he spent his
teenage years performing in an original progressive rock band, Scam, as well as a
bluegrass group with his father, the Ocean Valley Boys. With Scam, Silverstein
released two professionally recorded three song EP's as well as multiple self
produced songs. The group won the 2010 Westchester County Battle of the Bands
and were featured in an article in the Journal News. With the Ocean Valley Boys
he helped produce an 11 song album. The group performed at the 2009 Shakori
Hills Grassroots Festival and were named best new band. Silverstein finished
his high school years focusing on his recording and production skills. He and
some friends experimented with more contemporary music styles, releasing
music under the aliases of Now and The Alpha Secret.
In 2011 Silverstein began college at the University of Miami where he studied
music and engineering. He produced a four song EP for his freshman year
roommate, Eric Nizgretsky, entirely in a dorm room. Later that year Silverstein
joined Nizgretsky's band, Sins of the Loose Buttons, currently named Loose
Buttons. Since joining, the group has released two self produced EP's, AM
Arcade (2013) and Damage Gallery (2014). Loose Buttons has performed in
New York, Miami, Boston, Washington DC, and Philadelphia, and have been part
of the 2013 and 2014 CMJ Music Marathon in NY, as well as the 2013 CBGB festival
and the 2013 and 2014 Northside Festival in Brooklyn. The band's music has been
featured in music blogs including Paste Music, Indie Shuffle, Pop Matters, and
CMJ.
At the University of Miami, Silverstein studied jazz bass in addition to electrical
and computer engineering, focusing on their use in audio and music. He has
worked on projects ranging from analog guitar effect designs to digital plug-ins.
He has worked as an engineer at well regarded guitar effects manufacturer
Electro-Harmonix, working on pedals including the Freeze, Superego, and
Electric-Mistress. This engineering work has provided new insight into how to use
equipment, live and in the studio, to make music come to life.

Frontman Eric Nizgretsky, Zack Kantor and Manny Silverstein played their first Manhattan club gigs in 2007, at
the early age of 14. And having recruited drummer Adam Holzberg, another New York native, at University of
Miamis Frost School of Music, theres no doubt that the 21-year-old musicians have a passion for their craft.

-Paste Magazine
Loose Buttons are a New York indie/alternative rock band who are so young that they can just
barely get access into bars over here in the States. But that doesn't mean that their sound isn't solid
and matured. I mean, clearly not every 21 year old can say that they have played a show at the
Brooklyn Bowl, Northside Festival, or in Times Square with Grizzly Bear -- to name a few feats.

-Indie Shuffle
Loose Buttons are on their way up. These 21-year old musos released their
debut EP, AM Arcade, last year and played at some of the festivals weve
covered recently, the 2013 CMJ Music Marathon and Northside Festival 2014.

-Drop Your Drink

At the tender age of 21, members of Loose Buttons have already built quite a career. The
foursome live in New York City, but three are students at the University of Miami's Frost School of
Music. The band has, thus far, released two EPs, headlined Tobacco Road and Brooklyn Bowl,
toured the East Coast, played the 2013 CMJ Music Marathon and Times Square with Grizzly Bear
and My Morning Jacket. It's even teamed up with Amnesty International in Washington D.C.

-Broward New Times

[Scam's] musical ability was impressive, too, and their technical ability surpassed that of any other group.

-Rye Patch
And that kind of describes Scam they do a little of everything. 'We have a contemporary
take on the classics,' says Silverstein, who plays bass and produces most of their tracks.
