Title

: Time management problem

1. Focused issue:
The problem that I had encountered on the first week of my practicum was I was
unable to finish my lesson as planned on the given time. I was only able to carry out
my lesson until the practice stage.
2. Analysis of issue (factors and effects of issue):
There were several contributing factors which makes me not to complete my lesson
on time. First, is the pupils proficiency level in English. The pupils English level were
below my expectation. As it was the first time I am teaching class 4 Zamrud, I was
unable to determine their performance level in English. Second, the materials that I
had prepared do not suit their level. They find it difficult to comprehend longer words
and they are unable to pronounce several words. Thus, it takes time for me to explain
to them about the meaning of the words and phrases. Besides, when there is a
transition between two different classes, pupils will either go for toilet breaks or it took
them some time to walk to the computer lab.
3. Literature Review:
According to Teachnology (n.d.), in order to plan a good lesson plan, a teacher
should know about their pupils. This includes knowing pupils family background,
cognitive ability, interests, learning styles and learners motivation in learning second
language. Teachnology (n.d) also stated that another factor that should be taken into
account is pupils attention span. With getting to know about pupils well, teacher can
carry out a lesson smooth and successfully as planned the lesson planned on time.
4. Suggestions and ideas for improvement:
I have found several alternatives to overcome the problems that I have stated above.
Some of the alternatives include:
Talk with the cooperating teacher on pupils cognitive ability, learning styles
and their interests in learning English.

Plan teaching and learning activities which is suitable to their level.

Plan interactive group activities which motivate and make pupils to involve in
learning.

5. Duration:
1 Week
6. Follow-up actions:
The action that I had taken in order to take steps on preventing my lesson to drag till
the next day is by talking to the cooperating teacher and get to know my pupils better.
Other than that, I have also told to present in class on time. Besides that, by talking
to a few pupils of 4 Zamrud, I was able to gauge their level in comprehending English
and I start to plan lesson according to pupils ability in learning English.
7. Date of action taken:
15th April 2015
8. Effectiveness of the solution:
Although I was not able to fully conduct my lesson on time. But, there were some
improvement as pupils start to come early in my class and they were able to
understand what I am teaching in English as I have used simple sentences. Besides,
I have used gestures and body language to make pupils to understand the content
that I am delivering.
9. Conclusion / Reflection (Impact and obstacles):
I am able to get close to finish my lesson on time as planned. Other than that, my
pupils were able to understand the lesson and they get involved in the group
activities actively. I had read some online articles on individual differences and the
ways to accommodate my lesson to pupils with short attention span.
