GROUP 4

Introduction

We are given task for Health, Safety and Environment Management course. This task
need us to choose one place in UTHM and arrange a site visit to identify and discuss
legal non-compliance with respect to OSHA 1994, FMA 1967 as well as EQA 1974. We
choose male surau at blockG3. We made a site visit on 25 March 2015 and we can
identify several problems than concern the safety of student using that facility.

Objective
This task requires us to apply safety and health program to meet the work place
requirement. We also need to react according to the most current acts pertinent to the
Occupational Safety and Health.

Contents

1. Condition imperfect roof and perforated

FMA 1967, PART 2 Safety, Health & Welfare 13 Provisions relating to


safety, etc. 10. Without prejudice to any law with respect to local
authorities, in respect of any factory, the following provisions relating to
safety shall apply: (B) roofs shall be of sufficient strength to carry where
necessary suspended loads;

2. Fire extinguishers that have expired

Without prejudice to any law with respect to local authorities, in every
factory there shall be taken such precautions against fire, and there shall
be provided and maintained, such means of escape in case of fire than
other means of exit in ordinary use, and such means of extinguishing fire
as may be prescribed.

3. Fire extinguishers not be placed in rightful place

4. The tile is cracked in places whudu

safety shall apply:(E) every opening, sump, pit or fixed vessel in a floor, or
working level shall be securely covered or securely fenced so as to
prevent the risk of persons falling;

5. ventilator does not function properly

OSHA 1994 act 514 ; (2)Without prejudice to the generality of subsection


(1), the matters to which the duty extends include in particular: e) the
provision and maintenance of a working environment for his employees
that is, so far as is practicable, safe, without risks to health, and adequate
as regards facilities for their welfare at work.

Conclusion
From the case study, we can conclude that:
1. The roof need to be replaced and repair to ensure the safety of the students.
2. The fire extinguisher needs to be replaced in case of fire emergency, it can be
used.
3. UTHM need to provide a special place for the fire extinguisher to be accessible
during fire emergency.
4. The tiles in whudu place need to be replaced for safety of students.
5. Ventilator should be changed to provide clean and fresh air.
