To whom it may concern,

I would love the opportunity to become part of your amazing school
system. My philosophy of education is that every student has the potential to excel
with the help of educators and parents who are willing to put in the time and effort
to help them succeed. I respect and agree with the philosophy of the three Rs,
respect, responsibility, and readiness. These are three major components in the
success of students. My goal is to help prepare students to achieve academic
excellence and to acquire the skills necessary to become life-long learners as they
meet the challenges of today's world. It is extremely important to create a safe and
nurturing educational environment within the school community. Your school system
is the type of system I have always admired.
My experience as a teacher assistant at the Kathleen Thornton School
ignited a fire within me to want to be an outstanding teacher. This was a great
experience which allowed me to work with all types of children with disabilities. I
feel that this experience prepared me for the time I spent at Liberty Elementary
School in Springfield. I worked as a pull-out .4 teacher on a waiver, for grades 3-5. I
had my own classroom and students with disabilities ranging from ADHD to Specific
learning disabilities. My time at Liberty School was very productive and rewarding,
but I wanted to get certified with my masters degree in regular education. My
journey at Liberty School ended and I decided to go back to school full time. In May
2008, I graduated from Springfield College with a master's degree and a
certification in Elementary Education. My student teaching was completed at
Meadow Brook School. This was my first time working in a suburban school system
and I enjoyed it tremendously. The staff was so caring and helpful that I immediately
wanted to be part of the team.
Working at SABIS International Charter School, as a sixth grade English
teacher, has been an amazing adventure. Working at SABIS has been a wonderful
and challenging experience. I have learned valuable skills that assist me in my day
to day teaching. SABIS has given me the opportunity to create positive relationships
with parents, students, and colleagues. I have had the opportunity to set up an
Abstract Art Club which meets 5 times a week and have coordinated field trips to
help immerse students in the Arts. I was on a Vertical Alignment Committee, which

met throughout the school year, to help align the SABIS curriculum to The Common
Core. The Common Core had been the focus for most of my professional
development at SABIS. I attended a Common Core workshop every June for a week.
The workshop consisted of ideas to integrate into my teaching that support The
Common Core. Last year, I completed my first Educational Portfolio and created
S.M.A.R.T goals. In September 2012, I became certified in The Get Real Program,
and I have been teaching a sixth grade advising class.
Currently, I am teaching fourth grade in the Springfield Public Schools.
Teaching in Springfield for the past 2 years has been both rewarding and
challenging. I have become very familiar with the ANET testing system used by the
city. The scores that are reported are analyzed and used to determine what skills
need to be retaught in the classroom to achieve proficient results. My
responsibilities include planning parent teacher conferences and phone calls,
administering Fountas & Pinnel reading assessment, as well as all grading and
clerical duties.
I have a positive attitude and am ready to work hard and be a part of
you school community. If given the chance I would prove to be an asset to your
school system. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for considering me for
this position.

Sincerely,

Sandy Goodale
