Letter from the Editor

Ascend Members and Friends,
This week's Weekly Digest issue is huge! I'm talking about, "Wow, this e-mail is just too long..." huge. To make it easier to
read, we entertained the idea of adding a table of contents to the regular e-mail, but there was still so much to say and
show. So we said, "Let's just go all out and create a PDF newsletter!" and so we did. We're proud to announce that the
next evolution of our official Weekly Digest newsletter is here for everyone's viewing pleasure! Please take a look through
it; we want to be closer to our readers, and we feel that this is progression in the right direction.
It's truly amazing that we have a weekly newsletter that is so lengthy. It is absolutely a credit to all of the students who
dedicate themselves to bringing opportunities to Queens College. We thank you.
We also welcome any and all feedback. Some of you know the Queens College mission statement, Discimus ut
serviamus (we learn so that we may serve). We decided to modify that slightly our Ascend QC mission is, Ut magis
serviat emendamur (We improve so that we may serve better).
Were always trying to push the envelope with new ideas!
Kind Regards,
Basil Mathai

Participating in the relief effort for Nepal

As you might know, Nepal was hit hard by a mega earthquake of 7.8 Richter Scale on April 25, 2015, and several
aftershocks following the primary shock.
The situation is still fearful, and Nepalese have still been feeling tremors every now and then. This devastating
earthquakes have claimed the lives of more than 4,000 (still counting) and injured above 10,000 people.
Moreover, thousands of houses, and several natural heritages such as temples and historic landmarks have
turned into rubbles. As you might be aware that Nepal is one of the least developed country, and resources are
weak and constrained.
At this time of need, every help counts and together we can bring change, and build hope among the survivors.
Every little help goes a long way. Victims in Nepal are even deprived of basic supplies such as food, tents and
medication. Any donation would be much appreciated by those affected in Nepal, our community, and Ascend,
and could help to save a life.
100% of the raised funds will directly go to the Nepal Earthquake relief operation of CARE.org. The first $1,000
will be matched by the Ascend Foundation (501c3 organization), and the second $1,000 will be matched by our
National President, Jeff Chin.
Please use this link to donate: https://www.crowdrise.com/CARE-NepalRelief/fundraiser/ascendfoundationinc
We thank you for your help!
