Introduction
This document describes how to install from scratch the Linux NPO machines with the
required software, from a local DVD-ROM or using NPO remote installation through
ILO. This method also applies for MPM installation.
The NPO remote installation feature provides 2 options: installation through iso images or
using local DVD media.
System state
Ensure that the following states apply before beginning this method and upon completion
of this method.
Initial state
Before starting this method, the NPO server is not commissioned in Release M4.

Note that already commissioned NPO servers can be re-commissioned with the M4
software, but the procedure described in this document applies for non-commissioned
servers.
Final state
At the end of this method, the commissioning of the NPO servers is complete and the
results are available in the Completion Check List.
Restrictions
You must perform ALL the commands directly from the server console.
Do not use the remote login (ssh, rlogin, telnet), unless it is clearly stipulated in the
method.
The NPO <server_hostname> is a string of up to 16 alphanumeric characters. Do not
use blank, space or special characters (e.g.: ':',' -', '.', '_', '#', ...) as part of a NPO
<server_hostname>. The first character must be an alphabet character.
The NPO <server_hostname> cannot be npo.

For NPO installation, one NPO license must be available, obtainable after the
installation of DVD1.
Inform the operator
Ask for a representative of the operator be onsite (unless otherwise specifically agreed
in writing).

ILO General Usage

Prerequisites
1. ILO is already configured. For details of ILO3 usage, refer to HP ProLiant

Integrated Lights-Out3 User Guide on HP web site, depending on the ILO version
present on the server.
2. IP network allows traffic through default ILO port 17988
3. In order to obtain best performance, HP recommends use of image files. Also use
local image files stored either on the hard drive of the Client PC or on a network drive
accessible through a high-speed network link.
4. If DVD0, DVD1L, DVD2, DVD3 iso image are available, copy them locally on the
Client PC
5. If DVD0, DVD1L, DVD2, DVD3 media are available, place them, one by one, in the
DVD drive of the Client PC, following the installation method steps
6. Check Java Runtime Environment or Microsoft.NET Framework versions, depending
on how Remote Console window is accessed, to be up to date.
Basic steps for ILO for remote install usage
When ILO remote installation is used, the 2 main operations to be performed are: mount
and unmount of the virtual drives, either of the requested DVD iso image or the
requested DVD media.
Mount as virtual drive the requested DVD iso image or the DVD media from the
Remote Console menu of the ILO redirection web page.
Note:
In case of DVD iso image available, use the Virtual Image option.
In case of DVD media available, select the drive letter from the Client PC,
containing the DVD media.
