Global Warming Has Taken Over Los Angeles
Global warming has become a common issue in our everyday lives. However,
many people do not believe that global warming exists. Which leads onto many
controversial issues, because many people do believe it exists. Global warming has
become worse over the years. Therefore, it has
become one of the most popular issues in Los
Angeles. An author of an article stated, Climate
change will likely degrade LAs ideal climate. In
the future LAs climate will look like Jacksonville, Floridas, climate today. The picture
above is from an online article called Science blogs, and it shows how the earth is truly
being destroyed due to global warming.
The sea level rise has also become one of the most significant problems of global
warming in LA. Climate change in Los Angeles on seal level will make it worse for
flooding and erosion as major storms can create higher tides. It is expected for the sea
level in Los Angeles to rise as two feet by 2050 because of climate change. Global
warming affects society in many negative ways. For example the citys wastewater are
highly at risk to sea level rise, flooding and erosion can cause damage to the roads, and
museums, aquariums and historic buildings that are located along the coast can face

Azazian2
severe damage. Therefore, communities such as San Pedro, Wilmington, and Venice are
at a huge risk of flooding.
I have personally experienced global warming and do believe it exists, because
our winter was not as cold this year as it was 3-4 years ago. We did not receive much rain
these past two years. Also, the weather was hot enough in the month of February to wear
shorts. I also do notice that global warming has increased over the years tremendously,
because one day it could be really hot, and the following day it is really cold. There is no
in between, and it keeps getting worse as the years go by.
A source called Change.LA stated the current and future temperatures of
neighborhoods in Los Angeles. This
source also contained a picture, which
is on the right that shows the
temperature extremes in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles region is becoming
much hotter. Such communities lie
Woodland Hills, Eagle Rock and
Hollywood are at a threat of a increase in average temperatures. Coastal cities are
expected to warm 3-4 degrees Fahrenheit. Downtown LA is expected to warm up to 4-4.5
degrees Fahrenheit. The mountains and deserts at expected to warm 4.5-5.5 degrees
Fahrenheit. Coastal and central areas in LA, such as San Fernando Valley and San
Gabriel Valley are expected to see heat days triple. Whereas, deserts are expected to face
double or triple hot days. Therefore, mountains are expected an increase by 5-6 times the
current number on hot days.

Does Global Warming Exist? See what people have to say
I was able to interview a couple of people with different age groups about global
warming. I interviewed my parents and I asked them, if they do believe global warming
exists. Both said yes. My second question was, how has global warming affected Los
Angeles? They said that global warming has increased tremendously over the years,
because they said when they moved to Los Angeles 20 years ago, the weather was not lie
how it is today. They said that they experienced winter before, however, they dont feel
like winter exists in Los Angeles anymore due to the lack of rain and cold.
I interviewed some of my friends. One of my friends, who is 19, said that he does
not believe global warming exists. He stated Americans are crazy, because they think
that just because the weathers behavior is not constant that they think its global warming.
I asked him questions about the seal level, and if he knew that it has increased over the
years. He simply responded with they are just making it up. Another one of my friends
who I interviewed said that she believes in global warming. She said that she does not
feel like winter exists in Los Angeles anymore. She also says that global warming has
become a common issue in our everyday lives, because it is the air we breathe daily. I
asked her if she thinks global warming could decrease if society wanted to somehow
address the issue. She said that she does not believe that society could fix something that
is so bad. I interviewed one of my biology teachers from high school and she said that
people dont believe in global warming, because they dont want to accept the fact that
the air we breathe is not healthy. She also said that global warming is only getting worse,
because people who dont believe in it are constantly doing things that are harming the

Azazian4
environment in which we live in. She said, If everyone accepts the fact that global
warming does exist, then we could all come together and find a solution.
A common issue amongst the younger population is that we do not truly care for
our environment. Personally speaking, my friends and I do not take care of the
environment and disregard the fact that global warming exists due to human activity.
After researching about global warming, I understand how important it is for society to
accept that global warming does exist so that we can find ways as to how we can improve
the environment in which we live in.
Being able to interview a couple of people opened my eyes, because I now know
how others view the environment in which we live in. We all view global warming
differently, which is why I found it to be interesting. Some people do not believe it exists
and some people do. However, global warming is a fact and has been proven due to the
severe climate change Los Angeles has experienced.
How has global warming increased?
There is an article, which is by Charlie Spiering, therefore, it represents Joe Biden
speaking out about global warming. He states, Global Warming is the greatest threat to
your generation. Biden explains that it is not only tree huggers who are worried about
the environment; the department of defense is worried about global warming much more.
Biden also was able to present the factual evidence towards global warming by saying
that as the seal levels rose, there would be dislocations of tens of millions of people
around the world.
Global warming has become a significant issue in our society today. Therefore,
the United States Geological Survey states that ice sheets located in the Antarctic and

Azazian5
Greenland will melt due to climate change, and that seal levels will increase up to 80
meters. There are many ways Los Angeles has contributed to help regulate global
warming. For example, Los Angeles announced in 2014 that they will require all of the
new buildings in the city to be built with white roofs. These white roofs will help cool
down the city and fight climate change. The sun reflects off of surfaces and become
tapped in the atmosphere, therefore, white roofs help that light escape faster, and cool
down the earth.
How can locals help with global warming?
Jonathan Parfey, who is a part of the LA.-based nonprofit Climate Resolve, states
in a website called La Progressive, in an article, named Warming Globally, Acting
Locally, that L.A. has a spectacular climate, but global warming can hurt our city by
impacting the things we care most about, including our health, food and water supply,
property values, air quality and fire safety. Therefore, it is important for Los Angeles to
take care of its climate. Water has been one of
the things that Los Angeles has been suffering
with. Los Angeles is suffering through the
third year of drought. Parfey states that local
action is a must. The picture to the left
represents a few protesters who care about
their climate and want to help it. If society does not want to take action and help make a
change, then global warming is only going to get worse as the years go by.
There are many ways people in Los Angeles can help with global warming. For
example, recycling is one of the key factors in reducing global warming. Using less heat

Azazian6
and air conditioning, driving less or buying an electric car. Buying energy efficient
products is one of the most important and severe ways to reduce global warming. Even
though there are many way to reduce global warming, one of the easiest ways we can
help reduce it is by encouraging others to conserve. If everyone in Los Angeles chooses
to conserve and encourage one another, global warming would no longer be an issue.
Global Warming has had a huge impact on Los Angeles. Los Angeles has
experienced extreme heat waves, air pollution, water shortages, electricity disruptions,
and seal level rise. These are current issues that Los Angeles faces, because global
warming has increased severely. Therefore, this affects regional economy, public health,
recreation, urban infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, and the environment. It is important
for citizens to understand that global warming has taken over society.
Los Angeles is one of the most popular cities for tourism. Therefore, that could
change because of global warming. The poor quality of the environment could be a result
of the lack of tourists. Society has to provide their climate with great care, because if
global warming continues to increase, Los Angeles will no longer be the same. The
outdoors is one of the most important parts of Los
Angeles, if that changes; Los Angeles will lose its
beauty and nature. The picture to the right is a great
example of the poor climate in Downtown LA.
An article by, Scientific American, states,
Climate change cant alter the blue skies or access to the beach and mountains, but it
will pose four tangible threats: The summers will grow hotter, the air will be smoggier,
there will be more fires, and there will be much less water. Climate change can degrade

Azazian7
LAs ideal climate. Climate researchers have states that Los Angeles is predicted to be
13 degrees F warmer on average in July by 2070.
Public transportation is a positive way to help reduce global warming. The less we
use fuel-efficient cars, the better it is for the climate. Therefore, using public
transportation or buying an electric car can help improve Los Angeles environment
tremendously. Using less water is also going to help. Watering your lawn less is a great
way to contribute to the health of the environment. Society should be able to adapt to new
ways of using things efficiently, because if society does not want global warming to
become worse, then society must take these actions seriously.
An article, by Bryan Walsh states, The first three months of 2013 were the driest
for California on record, and theres no relief in sight. UCLA says that the local
mountain snowfall is vital for water supplies. It can fall 30-40% below 2000 levels by
mid-century due to global warming. Snowfall levels could fall over 60% by the end of the
century
Global warming is a common issue in our daily lives, which is why society must
take action. If global warming becomes worse, Los Angeles will lose its attraction.
Therefore, it is important for the climate in Los Angeles to be in good quality, because if
it is not it will effect not only its own people, but tourists as well. Once tourists do not
come to Los Angeles, then our economy would be severely affected as well. This shows
that global warming is not only effecting the environment, it is also affecting Los
Angeles economy. However, not only has global warming affected Los Angeles, it will
rise in average temperature and will have far reaching effects on earths climate and

Azazian8
living things. Global warming has affected weather patterns, health, wildlife, glaciers and
sea levels.
