Essay Practice:
There are several, valuable general test-taking strategies I will apply when taking
the final for Student Development 100.
The first strategy I will use is to arrive early so I can relax and reduce test taking
anxiety. In the past, I have found that arriving last minute and feeling rushed only
enhances the stress I feel. By arriving early and focusing on the task at hand, I will
reduce my stress level and, therefore, I will take tests better.
The next strategy I will apply is to maintain a positive attitude. In the past, I have let
difficult questions raise my anxiety and that has started negative thinking. I will do
the easier questions first and come back to the difficult questions later on the in the
test. This will help manage my time and will keep me positive.
Considering each test a practice session is the last strategy I will use when taking
the final for this course. I will analyze my performance and evaluate my answers.
Using the test taking skills I have learned, I will review to see if my plan worked. I
will also talk to teachers should I receive a low score or feel that an answer should
be reviewed or discussed. I now know that I can learn from the practice of taking
and reviewing my tests.
All of these strategies, when applied to test-taking, will provide me with a positive
experience and hopefully a good grade on my Student Development 100 final.
