Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate.

Broadly speaking, the weather in Vietnam is dictated by

two monsoon seasons -- the southwest monsoon from April to September and the northeast
monsoon from October to late March or early April.
While people often equate monsoons with rain, that is only partly the case in Vietnam as there
are a number of regional variations that affect the rain. What is worth remembering though is the
southwest monsoon is hot and the northeast monsoon cool.
The southwest monsoon primarily effects Southern Vietnam -- warming up the Mekong Delta
through Saigon and all along the coastal strip as far north as between Qui Nhon and Da Nang. It
also influences the Central Highlands region.
The northeast monsoon effects the north bringing lower temperatures to Hanoi, Ha Long Bay,
Sapa and the the coastal strip as far south as around Hue.
Temperatures only drop to what could only be considered cool in Hanoi, the mountainous north
and the Central Highlands (in the evening). For the majority of the country, the temperature
swings between the mid 20s to low 30s year-round.
Southern Vietnam, including the Mekong Delta, sees most of its rainfall between May and
October, peaking in June.
The northern reaches of Central Vietnam see rain from August through to January, with the
heaviest falls reserved for September and October which is also typhoon season. The southern
coastal region, as far north as between Nha Trang and Qui Nhon, sees the rain start later,
Novemberish, but still dropping off in January.
Northern Vietnam gets the wet from May to October, with August being the wettest month. The
cooler months of December and January also see heavy mists that can run for days -- these can
reduce visibility in places like Sapa and Ha Long Bay to frustratingly short distances.

The Climate of Vietnam

Vietnam is located between 9 and 23 degrees north. Eastern Vietnam has a

long coastline on the Gulf of Tonkin and the South China Sea. It has a tropical monsoon
type of climate; from May-Sep the south monsoon sets in, and the country is dominated
by south to southeasterly winds. From Oct-April, the north monsoon is dominant with
northerly to northeasterly winds affecting the country. There is a transition period
between each monsoon season when winds are light and variable.
The country is mountainous in the northwest and in the central highlands
facing the South China Sea, with peaks reaching up to 8000ft (2450m) In the north
around Hanoi and in the south around Ho Chi Minh City, there are extensive low-lying
regions in the Red River delta and the Mekong delta respectively.
Vietnam has a single rainy season during the south monsoon (May-Sep).
Rainfall is infrequent and light during the remainder of the year. Rainfall is abundant,
with annual rainfall exceeding 1000mm almost everywhere. Annual rainfall is even
higher in the hills, especially those facing the sea, in the range of 2000-2500mm.
For coastal areas and the parts of the central highlands facing northeast, the
season of maximum rainfall is during the south monsoon, from Sep-Jan. These regions
receive torrential rain from typhoons which move in from the South China Sea at this
time of the year. The weather at this time is cloudy with frequent drizzle.
During the north monsoon, northern Vietnam has cloudy days with occasional
light rain, while southern Vietnam tends to be dry and sunny.
Temperatures are high all year round for southern and central Vietnam; but
northern Vietnam has a definite cooler season as the north monsoon occasionally
advects cold air in from China. Frost and some snow may occur on the highest
mountains in the north for a few days a year. In the southern Vietnam, the lowlands are
sheltered from outbreaks of colder northerly air and the dry season is warm to hot with
much sunshine.

There are 3 regions in Viet Nam: north VietNam, south VietNam and middle
Vietnam. The weather in each region is different betwen each region. In North
Vietnam, there are 4 seasons: Summer, winter, spring and autumn but there are
only 2 seasons in South and middle Vietnam.
What which season do you like season in a year. iI love winter because the winter
it is beautiful and the cold of winter will be make people near together. it is not too
cold ,so there isn't snow in the winter in vietnam. In winter we get to usually wear
warm clothes and have comfortable sleeps on mattress bet bed with quilted
blankets.
In summer, it is hot. There are many things to play in the Summer: swimming,
foodball football , camping... there are many colours in summer especially the
colour of clothes, we will get have to wear many model clothes
And spring season. it is a special season beacause because there is a big long
holiday in the season, do you know?.. Tet holiday. Tet holiday is biggest the longest
/ most important holiday in a year in Vietnam. Tet holiday begins at topthe end
of spring season and lasts finishes 7 days after. And there is an important day in
spring, do you know, i thingI think that you know, it is velentine day.
In autumn . it is wet and the sky is clear. The trees are beginning to shed their
leaves.
