PUSO Cultural

PUSO Cultural celebrates Filipino culture and traditions

through dance. Each dance represents different ethnic
traditions from all three regions of the Philippines that make
up one nation. As a student run dance team, Cultural strives
to spread awareness about our culture to the rest of the
community, of which the Philippines is underrepresented.

Shay and Viv

Shay and Viv is a sophomore singing duet formed for

PUSOfest. We met through PUSO Ballroom and came
together because of our passion for music and love of singing.
We want to share that with a club that gave us so much

MOXiE

MOXiE is a dance group consisting of 7 girls-- Sam, Genesis,

Sarah, Simone, Karina, and our newly added members Jazmin
and Markin. Our biggest goal is to foster each others interests
in dance, encouraging the growth of everybodys unique style.
So for PUSOfest, weve decided for our theme to be The
Seven Dwarves. Each dwarf is a representation of our
different styles and our reason of choice reflects our goals
with dance-- either the expansion of what wed like to master
or the curiosity and challenge of trying something new. In
the end we will all be channeling our inner... Dwarves

MOXMEN

Originally planned to make their debut performance at

PUSOFest 2014, MOXMEN began its humble beginnings as a
duo between world-class breaker, Aaron Alcana, and hes-okI-guess dancer, James Kho. Despite not actually performing
at any events thus far, MOXMEN has gone through multiple
member rotations. MOXMEN strives to entertain the masses
as a group of friends with different backgrounds in dance,
culture, and style. While Project MOXMEN has been brushed
to the side for over a year, it has finally come together to
prepare and unleash its debut appearance at PUSOFest
2015. While there may be other acts that are admittedly more
skilled and better trained than MOXMEN, it hopes to bring a
different entertaining atmosphere to the PUSOFest stage that
will set it apart from the many talented people in PUSO, today.

We are a Family-- Jenn, Justin, Sam, and Vincent

and what we share, is the passion for performance.
Our main goal with our performance is to push ourselves
as individual artists through collaborative effort. Sam and
Vincent will be on vocals, piano, and guitar, performing
an original song while Jenn and Justin dance along center
stage. The song weve written depicts a storyline about a girl
who is finding her way in the world without her brother, the
only family member she has left who joined the Army. Jenn
and Justin will take on the role as the brother and sister.

PUSO Ballroom

First created when PUSO was founded, PUSO Ballroom

developed as generations have come and gone. Combining
love for dancing and chemistry between partners, the
team has grown bigger and bigger every year, turning
previously unexperienced students into social dancers.
From lifts to dips, we are the reason to sway your hips.

Tristan Manaloto

Charlotte, Casey and Tristan are freshmen who have always

aspired to express themselves through music; music has
always been a passion for them and they feel so fortunate
to be able to perform. puso has been their home away from
home, their support through the good and the bad. they want
to take this opportunity to give back to such a wonderful
organization that has been able to give so much to them.

Modfam Legacy

After graduating and pursuing other opportunities in life,

we as dancers have decided to come back and share the
stage once again. Despite us not being together for those
long bi-weekly practices anymore, we always still find time
to get down together, which is something many of us feared
would go away once we left Stony Brook. Without the PUSO
organization, we wouldnt have the platform to express
ourselves the way we do now. So we just want to put on one
heck of a show for the current general body, pur fellow alumni,
and to show how far weve come. This is ModFam Legacy.

Vince, Kenny & Jedric

We want to cover two songs that we feel exemplify selfdiscovery (check video submission). As musicians, were
constantly expressing our true colors through musical
expression. Music is more than just a hobby for us--its a
source of salvation and relief. We yearn to hold on to our
artistic values far past our college careers, continuing a
cycle of life that lives within the music we play for others.

ViXEN

ViXEN is an all-girl group that FULLY represents female

empowerment. With their performances, they hope to
emphasize independence as women as well as their confidence
in their own sexuality. With this shift of female perspective, it
is only expected that women will 100% realize their power
and become a FULLY more dominant force in society.

Tristan & Steph

The idea of knowing people other than your roommates/

suitemates seemed like an impossible feat for me, an
awkward freshman, taking her first steps of independence.
Then came the moment when I did a YOLO and joined PUSO.
Im eternally thankful for the way PUSO accepted me, and
helped me grow in the aforementioned ways. Though Ive
explicitly expressed my gratitude, Tristan and I would both be
honored to express our gratefulness through the opportunity
to perform to represent our appreciation of the club and the
people in it whove helped us on the journey to self-discovery.

PUSO Modern

PUSO Modern is one of the three dance groups from the

Philippine United Student Organization (PUSO). They began
performing for on-campus shows, but also branched out to
participate in competitions such as, Defining Rhythm, Reign
or Shine, Flash, and Prelude East Coast. The team strives to
work alongside its mother organization to create great shows
and an entertaining environment. Challenging its dancers
to their full potential, PUSO Modern hopes to also display
their hard work and dedication through their performances.

PUSenior Showcase

The PUSO Senior class would be doing 2 cultural, 2

ballroom, and 2 modern dances. The dances would be
previous dances choreographed by PUSO seniors, but they
would be tweaked to put on a new, refreshing performance.

Gabe Bondoc

Gabe Bondoc is a popular Filipino acoustic and indie pop

artists from San Mateo, California. His One Take Session
of famous songs and originals brought up his fame and
popularity, especially on his Youtube channel (youtube.com/
GabeBondoc). Since the rise of his popularity, he has held
shows all across the West Coast. And today, he will be joining
us in the East Coast for Stony Brook PUSOs annual PUSOfest.

Presidential Farewell
Welcome to PUSOfest 2015: Journey to Self-Discovery! I want to
sincerely thank each and every single one of you for coming out
tonight and supporting our final event of the year. PUSOfest is an
opportunity to showcase the amazing talent within our organization
and celebrate all our accomplishments throughout the past two
semesters. For those of you who may not be familiar with our
organization, what we hope you take away from this years theme
of Journey to Self-Discovery, is that PUSO is more than just a
large, cultural club. It is a twenty-one year legacy that has positively
affected so many individuals who left their personal mark on it.
Not only is PUSO a cultural hub where we can enlighten ourselves
about our Philippine culture, but an opportunity for people to
grow as individuals in a supportive and welcoming environment.
I can certainly say that my term as 2014-2015 PUSO President
has been one of most challenging, yet rewarding experiences I
have endured thus far. I am forever indebted to an organization
that has given me the strength to develop myself not just as a
leader, but as a person. Because of this, I, along with my Executive
Board knew going into this past year that we wanted to work our
absolute hardest to provide only the best for an organization that
has provided so much for us. In all my four years of being an active
member, I can say that the most rewarding thing I have witnessed
was the amount of growth I have seen in so many members
over the course of just a few months, let alone a few years. It is
incredible to have witnessed what we have accomplished working
together and what we have brought out in each other as a family.
There are many people I want to take the time to personally
thank because without them, everything we have accomplished
throughout this past year would not have been possible. First off,
thank you to Student Activities, USG Events Management and A/V,
Liz, and our Program Advisor Christine Noonan, for helping us plan

and execute all of our events & meetings throughout the year and
dealing with my incessant questions, office check-ins and followups to make sure everything was running smoothly. Secondly, to
our D3 community and friends, it has been a struggle for us to be
connected with the district since distance alone serves as a barrier,
but Im so happy that we can continue to break that barrier and
bridge the gap amongst us and other schools over the years. I just
wanted to give a shoutout to SJU PARE for not just performing with
us for this event, but their constant support and enabling us to share
that connection as a Filipino collegiate organization with them. I
hope in the future, we can continue to strengthen our connection
with you all and the rest of the district. Next, I want to thank Tim,
Kristina, Simone, Jen, Jedric, JJ, Jan, Jazmin, Mona, Stef, Sarah,
Nicole, Sarah, and Kenny who have been by my side since even
before the start of this year as an Executive Board. Despite some of
our minor hardships we faced, I could not have asked for a better
dream team to work with. It also makes me happy to know that
we were able to build a family among this large family of ours.
Finally, I want to thank all the alumni for their constant support
and ultimately empowering us to take the lead and carry on the
legacy they have worked so hard to build before us. Going into
this year, I knew one of the things I wanted to do was bridge the
gap between our current membership and our alumni. Ultimately,
we wanted to make it known that even years after graduation, we
encourage you all to return to a place you all once considered home.
I want to end this by saying that I am more than confident
that this next group of leaders will do an amazing job this
upcoming year. As I end my term tonight, I know I will be
passing the torch in great hands. To future Executive Boards
and members, follow your own path and continue building the
legacy you want to create for not just this club, but yourselves.
