FAST-SC Connector Assembly Manual


This manual describes the assembly procedures of Fujikuras FAST-SC connector. Please be sure to read this manual carefully before using the connector.

1. Safety Precautions
During preparation of the fiber and assembly, broken fiber debris may get into the eyes. For safety purposes,
always put on safety goggles during assembly. Also, because there is a danger that fiber debris may cause
injuries to parts of the body other than the eyes, please be careful when handling fiber debris.

3. Assembly procedure
3.1. Preparation

Front Wedge

When connecting 0.9mm fiber,

Holding with both hands, first verify that the front


wedge is engaged, followed by the rear wedge.
Verification is done by compressing the top and
Rear Wedge bottom together.

A click sound is heard when wedge


is engaged.

Click

remove tube from the boot and


insert fiber directly into boot.
Insert 0.25mm fiber through the fiber protect tube into the boot.

3.2. Fiber tip processing (Fiber tip is processed using stripper, spacer and fiber cutter according to the pictures below)

3.3. Fiber Insertion

Keep an eye on
the opening and
the fiber in line.

Insert fiber slowly and straight into the


opening from back of connector main
body until marking is hidden.

Grip at about 10mm position.
3.4. Maintaining connection force on fiber

Form the fiber into a slight bow as above

Connecting fiber contacts pre-installed fiber when marking


is hidden.
Keep the grip position as above. In case that grip position
is near the connector (approx. 5mm), the fiber may be
broken inside of connector.
Keep the fiber bent until releasing wedge.

3.4. Maintaining connection force on fiber

40-60mm

Shift the grip position as above and form


the fiber into a slight bow

Connecting fiber contacts pre-installed fiber when marking


is hidden.
Keep the grip position at 40-60mm from the end of
connector. In case that grip position is near the connector
(approx. 10mm), the fiber may be broken inside of
connector.
Keep the fiber bent until releasing wedge.

3.5. Wedge Release (Press side of wedge unit while maintaining connection to release wedge.)

3.6. Housing assembly (Remove the lock and wedge, insert the housing and boot to complete.
