Introduction
Lampulo fishery port is a port which is located in Banda Aceh city, Indonesia.
Geographically the port is resided 5,576336 N dan 95,323058 E. A big Earthquake of Mw
9.00 on December 24, 2004 followed Tsunami incident was occurred and damaged almost
whole district in Banda Aceh City belonged Lampulo fishery port, and thereafter Aceh was
shaken back by great earthquake of Mw 7.2 on January 10, 2012 and Mw 8.6 on April 11,
2012 respectively. After the big disaster on December 2004, the port was reconstructing by
goverment coorperate with reconstruction and rehabilitation institution to become
international port level. There are several problems in term of development port area,
especially enviromental issues that followed by disturbance in shipping activities. Therefore,
it is needed a research with a view to resolve the issues. Research area of this study will be
focused on Lampulo Fishery Port and surrounding the river mouth of Krueng Aceh river of
Banda Aceh.
Problem Statement
Lampulo fishery port is faced directly with Indian Ocean, Andaman Sea, and Malacca, it is
worried to arise many problems. In other hand, Lampulo port was developed around the river
mouth of Krueng Aceh river of Banda Aceh. Naturally the port where is resided such as this
cases, it must has problems against hydraulics and environment. Shoreline changes due to
sedimentation and erosion are problems that were often arising around the port. Beside of
that, we have to learn from previous tsunami disaster in order to watchful to disaster
mitigation, Therefore, we need to verify whether shoreline changes is caused by port layout
or its occurred naturally, then we need to know how big the tsunami scenario is capable
responded by port building. So , this is what the research will provided.
Purpose of the study
The aim of this research are to assess the impact of the port construction to the coastal
line around Banda Aceh within observe shoreline changes caused by sedimentation and
erosion phenomenon, evaluate the rate, the direction and changes of volume of sediment
transport, moreover to investigate physical responses of the port structures to the Tsunami
waves.
Literature review
There were research and assessment regarding to Lampulo fishery port that was done by
companies and also research students from Syiah Kuala University. They carried out
assessment on various topics such as economical-industrial, degradation of public service,
maximize the performance of the ship, and assessment to environment respectively. A recent
study concerning to environment assessment on the port were done by two students from
Syiah Kuala University. (Rasyif, 2012) used numerical simulation method to examine the

influence of tidal currents against sedimentation and erosion potential on estuary of Lampulo
port. The result of study indicated that sediment is occurred left side of jetty structures
Krueng Aceh river mouth. The research will be support to this research.

Objective of Research
This research is expected to understand clearly the overall condition of the port thus
far, in term of extent sedimentation and erosion that was occurred surrounding the port,
moreover shoreline changes due to sedimentation and erosion around the port. Generally this
research is also expected could be acceptable as preliminary information for government to
build up the port.

Research Methodology
a. Impacts of the Lampulo Fishery Port of Banda Aceh on sediment transport
around Banda Aceh coasts
This sub-topic of the research is aimed at assessing the impacts of the port
construction to the coastal line around Banda Aceh by investigating the sediment
transport. The research will be conducted in several methods, i.e. field measurements
and numerical simulations. The data will be used to analyze the dominant factors
contributing to the sediment transport around nearshore zone. Numerical simulations
will be done by incorporating wind-waves and tidal currents. Some secondary data
will also be collected, such as bathymetri and sediment grain size data. Both of the
secondary data are available at TDMRC of Syiah Kuala University. Numerical
simulations will be done using Delft3D software. Other analytical solutions will be
potential to be included in this research.
b. Impacts of tsunami waves on port structures
This study will be done by numerical simulations. Field data will be also used to
validate the simulations results for the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami case. Generating
other smaller tsunami waves will be also done to see the responses of the Lampulo
Fishery Port structures to various tsunami wave conditions. Two possible simulation
softwares will be used, i.e. COMCOT for the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and
Delft3D. Among the port structures to be part of the study are breakwater and port
administration buildings.
