Benefits
Attach the flow meter to the valve. Choose the product type and
Kvs value of the Venturi.
Take the flow measurement and compare with the designed flow
rate.
If the measured flow rate is not the same as the designed flow
rate adjust the valve accordingly.
This is possible because the valve has a fixed orifice and the Kvs
value remains the same irrespective of the setting of the valve.
It is only necessary to measure and adjust once per fixed orifice
valve.
The adjustment of the BOSS Venturi valve is less time
consuming than adjustment of other types of balancing valves.
Conclusion
The BOSS Venturi valve (FODRV) can be regulated without influencing the measurement accuracy. It is difficult to adjust traditional globe
type balancing valves and take flow measurements at the same time because the Kvs value changes with every change in the setting. Where
the globe type valve has a reduced opening the accuracy is poor compared to when the valve is fully open. This accuracy can be between
+/-5% to +/-15% depending upon how far open/closed the valve is. The BOSS Venturi operates at an accuracy level of +/-3%.

Security
To prevent unauthorised isolation/tampering of the valve the handle
can be wired to the pipe in the open or closed position. Adjustment
to the regulating needle can only be made with an allen key.
Specification
The commissioning station & DRV should incorporate a characterised regulating needle combined with an isolating ball valve. The double
regulating feature should allow the valve to be isolated without movement of the set regulation point. The needle shall be locked in position
using an allen key. The valve shall be suitable for mounting in any orientation.
The flow rate is measured using a fixed orifice Venturi cartridge with double seal test points inserted into the valve body. These functions are
incorporated into a single fitting which contains any up & down stream lengths required for laminar flow conditions except when installed in
close proximity to a pump. The commissioning valve should produce a signal of between 10 60kPa except on the ultra low flow valves
where the signal should be between 1 4.7kPa. The valve is suitable for mounting with the test points pointing down. The commissioning
station has an accuracy of +/-3%.

Regulation/Operation
Flow Measurement
Flow measurements are via the Venturi nozzle. The BOSS Venturi
has two test points (P/T plugs). The high pressure test point is
identified by the RED retaining clip and the low pressure test point is
identified by the BLUE retaining clip. The pressure differential
measured between these test points can be used to calculate the
actual flow through the Venturi. This differential can be measured
using a flow meter or other measuring device. This is converted into
a flow rate of litres per second (l/s) or metres cubed per hour (m3/h)
either electronically or using a calculation formula.

Isolation
The valve is isolated by turning the hand wheel clockwise up to the
S position stamped on the gearbox. After isolation the valve is reopened to the pre-set position when the indicator cam reaches the
memory stop.
