CALL DROP EVENTS

Pilot Pollution
Degradation of serving cell
Missing neighbors

Pilot Pollution
a mobile can receive signals from separate base stations
simultaneously, combining them to actually create a
more robust connection
If more than four base stations reach a mobile with
enough power, the mobile will not be able to receive all
of them, and the excess energy only will add to the noise
floor, thus lowering the signal-to-noise ratio, which
dictates the BER or call quality. Then BLER will reach
high level and cause a call drop. In CDMA circles, this is
called pilot pollution
Pilot pollution generally is the result of putting too many
cell sites too close together at too high a transmit power

Example call drop due to High CPICH Power Pilot Pollution

Analysis

UE unable to SHO to
SC384 due to
degrading quality of
SC206 and SC72.

During the moments,

UE is in pilot pollution
area hence too many
server with same
CPICH power cause
BLER level increase
then drop call
Proposed Solution

1)

Downtilt SC216 ,
SC432, SC214, SC222

2)

Power down certain

site

3)

Remove SC72 from

the area

Analysis
UE is being served by
SC340, when it suddenly
degraded severely.

Analysis

This case is same as previous

slide but the problem is the
CPICH RSCP is low cause no
dominance serving cell serve
the area.

UE keep on sending MR to
RNC to add difference SC to
active set.
Proposed Solution

In this case, We can try to

increase CPICH power from 1
of the nearest serving cell.

Or we can try to lower the

CPICH power of unnecessary
serving cell but this will affect
the coverage for the area (not
the best solution)

Example call drop due to Low CPICH Power Pilot Pollution

Analysis
UE is being served by
SC122, when it started
degrading.
e1a was sent to add
SC130 which is equally bad.
This area is under pilot
pollution since too many cell
with high CPICH power
causing no dominant active
set in this area.

The radio condition

1)

We can try to adjust

the azimuth of nearest
serving cell to serve
the problem area.

2)

Increase CPICH power

of the dominance
serving cell.
