Executive summary

The aim of the project Analysis and Design of Building is to develop a Educational type of
building with reinforced concrete structure without considering the bracing effect of brick wall infill
frames ensuring the economy along with the safety requirements of Earthquake resistant building.
The scope of this report is to follow architectural plans/grids/features and analyse RCC structure
for different load conditions possible at the project construction location. This design is for the
structural analysis and design of various elements of a two and half storied residential building of
of District Nepal. The step by step and functional attempts of this report is
to design a building economically using computer aided design (CSI-ETABS V 15) over lengthy
less accurate manual design.
The different phases of Building Construction process include
Phase-1: Planning and drafting of representative architectural drawings in Autodesk-AutoCAD
Phase-2: Structural analysis of the Reinforced SMRF and reinforcement design/detailing &
adoption economical sizes of concrete columns, concrete Slab, Concrete Beams, Foundations
with the aid of advance analysis software CSI-ETABS
Phase-3: Construction with mechanism of supervision, control, adaptation of standards.
Among these stages this report is only responsible in structural elements design in regards of carefully
used Nepal National Building Codes and IS-Codes.
Entire regions of Nepal are vulnerable to earthquake. Hence the analysis procedure is necessarily
considered the Linear Static earthquake loads (horizontal only) with minimum stiffness eccentricities.
Seismic Coefficient method is used in the seismic load generations and no any model analysis is made
as the building height is less than 40m. Nepal lies in seismic zone IV/V as per IS1893:2002
Occupancy loads, Dead Loads and are carefully taken from NNBC and IS-codes. Chitwan region lies
in the IV/V seismic zone and thus requirements of the ductile detailing of elements are suitably
provided according to IS18920:1993(2003 reaffirmed) rather than mandatory thumb rules of NNBC.
Column Schedules, Bar Tables, Standard sections/elevations, Column Plan are systematically drawn
and presented in structural drawings. Some sample calculations and bending moment diagrams, axial
force diagrams, shear force diagrams are also included in annex. With best attempts this analysis
made the considerations of quality control and architectural variations in loading elements but it is
not responsible for the further modifications of loading elements more than 10%.All materials
properties used in construction periods are assumed to have no variations while designing this
building.
