MIDDLE SCHOOL
WEEK OF:
MAY 11 TO 15

Friday Bulletin

Weekly Publication for Middle School Parents

Inside this issue:

Dear Middle School Parents,
We hope to see many of you this weekend with our Middle School Musical - it is
great when a production can involve over 100 students in various roles whether it be
acting, dancing, playing an instrument, in the technical booth, along with HS students
who have been learning the craft of directing and stage design. A production of this
size involves many in the community and we thank everyone for creating a memorable and entertaining production of Wind in the Willows.
This coming week we will continue our transition work with grade 4 students who
will be moving to grade 5 in our Middle School next year. Students will take part in a
tour and talk, and we have invited parents to join us on Friday morning May 15 at
7:30 a.m. to learn more and to interact with teachers, counselors and leadership. We will meet in the grade 5 corridor and classrooms.
We are now in the final 4 weeks of the school year... May 20, the MS Media Center
is requesting all books to be returned by students and parents so they can conduct
their inventory and updates to the catalog system. Please also ensure you are completing re-enrollment procedures and if you have any questions you can contact the
MS Office.
Yours in Education,
Simon Gillespie, Middle School Principal

Vaccine: Vaxigrip (Sanofi-Pasteur)

Influenza, commonly known as flu or trangkaso is

caused by the influenza virus, and is easily transmitted through our hands or the air we breathe.

To be protected against influenza you should get

the flu shot annually because the circulating strains

of the influenza virus change each year, hence the
composition of the vaccine is updated annually. For

tropical countries the flu is present yearround with

peaks during the months of July until September.

Everyone with a valid ISM ID, teachers and their
children may participate in this vaccination session.
Please complete the vaccination payment form

Influenza and Tetanus (Tdap) vaccines can be

given simultaneously.
Influenza virus shots do not protect against
common cold, sometimes also referred to as
flu.
The minimum age for the vaccination in school is
3 years. Infants 6 month and older may be vaccinated by their pediatrician.
Children (9 years or younger) with no prior flu
shot will need a second shot after 28 days.
Pregnant women should get their shot from the
second trimester onwards.
The Southern hemisphere vaccine, which we
apply, covers all relevant strains of the Northern hemisphere as well.
Please refrain in case of egg protein allergy.
Vaccines will be solely administered at the clinic
and cannot be handed out. All unused vaccines
will be forfeited.

Tetanus (Lockjaw) Vaccination

Vaccine ADACEL (Sanofi-Pasteur)

Tetanus (Lockjaw) is caused by the Clostridium Bacterium. Their spores are resistant permanent forms
which are found worldwide in garden soil or dust.
The disease causes painful tightening of the muscles, usually all over the body. It can lead to "locking"
of the jaw so the victim cannot open his mouth or
swallow. Tetanus leads to death in 50% or more of all
cases.

To be protected against tetanus it needs a booster

every 10 years, after completing a series of 5 shots
during childhood. You should get the Tdap vaccine
(the tetanus booster that also protects against pertussis) in any case as soon as possible if you have not yet
received it.

Everyone with a valid ISM ID, teachers and their children may participate in this vaccination session.

Dear Parents,
I do want to remind you of the importance of completing the registration process for your children before the deadline date of May
22nd. PowerSchool closes on that date, and our assumption will be that a student who has not registered by then is leaving at the end
of the school year. We have many applicants at every Grade level on our Waiting List, and on May 25th we shall begin the process of
offering all available slots. As I am sure you understand, for those people relocating to the Philippines, their plans are on hold unless
and until they have guaranteed places in school for their children.
If you know already that you are departing in June, please inform Admissions of this as soon as possible. By doing so, you are making
life much easier for incoming families. The deadline for informing us of your planned departure is May 22nd. Please note that past
practice is that those who let us know they are leaving after this date will forfeit $1000 of their Facilities Upgrade Deposit.
The school year is galloping toward the finishing line, and we are looking forward to examinations, performances and graduations. I
hope these next seven weeks bring your children all that they hope for.
Best wishes,
David Toze
Superintendent

Leaving ISM?
Please be reminded that parents are obliged to officially inform the School in writing through a WITHDRAWAL NOTIFICATION FORM if their children will not be returning in August for School Year 201516. Families are encouraged to submit the Withdrawal Notification Form, stating the student's final
date of attendance, immediately. Forms must be submitted on or before May 8. Failure to submit the
form by that date may lead to a deduction of US$1,000 from the Facilities Upgrade Deposit (FUD), in
compensation for having held a space for your child, preventing the School from offering that space
to another candidate.
The Withdrawal Notification Form can be obtained from the Admissions Office or directly from the
ISM website under Admission > Re-Enrollment & Withdrawal > Withdrawals
Please feel free to contact the Admissions Office at 840.8601 for questions or clarifications.
