Military officers under the African Union Mission in Somalia
(AMISOM) have completed a five day training in counter-terrorism
and counter-insurgency in Mogadishu, Somalia.
The US and British backed training was attended by military
information officers and was aimed at equipping them with
enhanced skills in the war against terror.
The training comes at a time when AMISOM troops have liberated 80
percent of Somalia, completely pushing Al Shabaab militants out of
their strongholds.
During the opening of the training sessions a week ago, AMISOM
Chief Military Information Officer, Colonel Richard Karemire
emphasized its importance, saying it would enhance peace by
equipping the officers with the necessary skills to make peace
prevail.
At the closure of the training on Friday, the AMISOM Deputy Chief of
Staff Colonel Daher Aden Abrar said the classes had been helpful
especially in enhancing skills on information gathering.
I think it was very good course, beneficial; and I think the students
have gained a lot of experience to fight against terrorism in their
respective sectors. So it was very good, beneficial training. And in

future, I think the Americans will give us more trainings concerning

intelligence and fighting against terrorism, added Colonel Daher.
One of the trainees, Major Alex Ahabyona said, This course has
enhanced knowledge to AMISOM forces in all the sectors because it
has an overall picture of the whole situation that is happening in
Somalia especially on the forces of AMISOM that are fighting AlShabaab. Also in addition it has also enhanced our coordination with
our international partners especially the US military.
