DESIGN DATA SHEET EXH-DS-1317
This guide discusses the information required from the engineer on the Cooling Tower Institute
(CTI) Inquiry and Bid Form. (See CTI STD. 118 attached). This industry data sheet is used in
conjunction with EXH-EG-1317 to make up the job specification.
The data an engineer needs to provide are marked with an asterisk on the data sheets. Primarily,
they are the Design and Operating Conditions on the first page. There are a few isolated "fillins" on structural details, access to the top of tower, anchor bolts, the cold water basin, and the
electric motor drivers. Consult a civil and electrical engineer for assistance in these areas. If there
is no other support group, the major manufacturers bidding on the cooling tower can assist in these
areas.
The following information is required in the Design and Operating Conditions of the Data Sheets.
Also included is where to go for the required information.

Also note that the CTI has put a lot of effort into resolving past problems that the cooling tower
manufacturers have had in their completed towers meeting the design criteria.
The Model Specification EXH-EG-1317 (Part II) itemizes the following as the sole responsibility of
the Vendor:
1.

Meet the operating conditions of the Data Sheet.

2.

Be a CTI Code tower.

3.

Meet all applicable Codes and Ordinances.

To these requirements, the purchase order should also require the manufacturer to supply the
appropriate data so that a CTI Acceptance Test under ATC-105 can be performed (and appropriate
equations to financially penalize the manufacturer, if the tower does not meet "design.")
