What is RTWP?

Its Received Total Wideband Power.

the total level of noise within the
UMTS frequency band of any cell.
RTWP is related to uplink
interference.
Because of Uplink Interference you
faced call drop.
Actually its indication of Uplink
Interference in Cellular Network.
General value is nearly -104 or -105
dBm.

Start from scratch :

RFU or TRX module have 1*TX channel_DL and 2*RX channels_UL ( main and
diversity)
RTWP value for UL used to report one of two alarms :
too low & unbalance
depending in which one we can use separated path of troubleshooting .

Possible Solution for RTWP:

- Most common problem is Configuration Issue. So Check from RNC end.
- Check Hardware loose Jumper cable or faulty transmitter.
- Every thing is ok than may issue of external interference.

Just to add on RSSI

Possible reasons for sites experiencing a High UL RSSI
1.Internal Causes
i.RBS Internal Interference
ii.Faulty diplexers

iii.Faulty Antenna/TMA
iv.Incorrect parameter settings
v.Incorrect installation
vi.Traffic load
2.External Causes
i.GSM Interference
ii.High sites
iii.External interference

Possible reasons for sites experiencing a Low UL RSSI

1.No IP communication (unable to ftp xml from the site)
2.Component failures:
i.Cable, connectors and/or diplexers
ii.Antenna
iii.TMA
iv.RX-AIT
v.Distributed antenna system (DAS)
3.Incorrect parameter settings
4.Incorrect installation
Sites that are not integrated or locked, wont show any counter values

Want to share my experience for high RTWP problem in Indoor coverage or in

building coverage : Possibility can happen also in combiner device which have low
quality level of component which cause intermodulation. Usually happen for In
BUilding coverage which combine multi operator. I try to change the combiner
device with more expesive one (high quality) the high RTWP problem become
normal (reduce to -100 or -95 dBm from -70dBm). Case Close....so please check also
the combiner and their connections. Hope is this information is useful.

Joint Analysis of Traffic and Channel Power Distributions

in 3G Wireless Telecommunications Networks

RF Unit RX Channel RTWP/RSSI Unbalanced:

This alarm is reported when the difference between the RTWP/RSSI of the main RX channel and
the RTWP/RSSI of the diversity RX channel exceeds 10 dB. RTWP is shortened from received
total wideband power, consisting of signal power and noise power. RSSI is shortened from
received signal strength indicator.

Possible Causes

The main RX channel or diversity RX channel of the RF unit is faulty.

The setting of attenuation on the RX channel of the RF unit is incorrect.

External interferences exist only on the main or diversity antenna of the RF unit.

The feeder connected to the RF unit is faulty, which results in a high passive
intermodulation power of the main or diversity antenna.

The feeder installation is improper. For example, the feeder connector is loose,
soaked or damaged, or the feeder is deformed.
RF Unit RX Channel RTWP/RSSI Too Low:

This alarm is reported when the RTWP/RSSI on the RX channel of the RF

unit is lower than -114 dBm. RTWP is shortened from received total
wideband power, consisting of signal power and noise power. RSSI is
shortened from received signal strength indicator

Possible Causes

The setting of attenuation of the RF unit is incorrect.

The TMA is faulty.

The feeder installation is improper. For example, the feeder connector is loose,
soaked or damaged, or the feeder is deformed.

The RX channel of the RF unit is faulty. For example, the low-noise amplifier,
frequency mixer, analog to digital converter (ADC), or field programmable gate
array (FPGA) is faulty
