Respected Course Director, Dy.

Course director , and audience

Asslam o Alaikum and Good Morning

The topic of my speech is economic crisis in Pakistan.

Indeed Pakistan is passing through its worst ever economic crisis such
as electricity, inflation, natural gas, deficit in foreign investment,
unemployment, law and order etc. and This has shaken the infrastructure
of overall economy. Pakistans economy continuously facing these
challenges over the years.
According to Food and Agriculture Organization, Pakistan is the third
largest producer of Cotton seed, fourth largest in Cotton lint, 5 th largest
in Sugar Cane and 10th largest in Wheat. The principal natural resources
of Pakistan are considered to be arable land and water. About 25% of
Pakistans total land area is under cultivation and is watered through one
of the largest irrigation systems in the world.
1

Inspite of all these and worlds best geostrategic location, profitable

canal system and unexplored resources, Pakistan has painfully
experienced the rising poverty, lack of economic discipline, bad policies,
unemployment, bad governance, corruption and sinking economy;
Decades of internal political instability and low levels of foreign
investment have led to slow growth and underdevelopment in Pakistan.
The crisis in Pakistan are not unique case, number of other countries
have also gon through with this kind of economic crisis; but they
implemented appropriate policies, and able to survive the internal and
external stability over the medium term.
Our nation has ability to do wonders, provided with the dedicated
leadership. The nation, who earned nuclear position despite miserable
poverty, unemployment and immense foreign pressure.

Now this is the time that government should change their ways and
policies of handling problems. They should work for the betterment of
pubic rather than for their own interest. Weak governance of government
has contributed to economic troubles, challenges, and regional instability
in Pakistan.
As Energy outages hampered economic growth of Pakistan therefore,
this sector needs greater attention because of the faster growth rate in its
demand. Circular debt, weak financial position of energy companies,
falling gas production, high dependence on oil/gas, low exploitation of
indigenous coal and unutilized power generation capacity are some of
the significant constraints leading to severe energy shortages.

Sir, to curb with this menace and to meet with the challenge present
government has to take the steps like
3

Elimination of VIP culture and austerity drive.

To resolve the energy crisis as quickly as possible otherwise
economy will be collapse.
To bring a consensus among the masses on the construction of
dams and to use coal resources to overcome electricity crisis once
for all.
Government should take initiatives to bring down the inflation.
Political commitment to formulate short term and long term
policies with consistency.
To give priority to agriculture, water, power, health and education.
The chief executive of the country must exhibit the commitment to
reform and pursue sound economic policies.
At the expenditure side, to reduce the size of the state cabinet to
20-22 ministers.

Creating opportunities for educated unemployed class.

Peace in Karachi and Baluchistan is an imperative for overall
economic prosperity
Restoring confidence of private sector including national and
international investors.
Maintain strict financial discipline through sound fiscal policy for
the next five years.
The government should take corrective action to eliminate the root
of corruption.
Respected sir and participant
Pakistan is rich in human and material resources but poor governance of
the country has impeded the process of exploitation of these resources.
Good governance in all dimensions is a prerequisite to get out of the
present economic crisis. It is a perfect storm through which the country
5

will have to navigate. Whether it can go through without capsizing or

will depend on how the Pakistani establishment is able to steer the state
towards the safety of a shore. It is also the prime duty of every
individual, the society, and the state to uphold the constructive norms in
order to get honour in the community of nations.

It has always been said that Pakistan is one of the most resourceful
country in the world and it is for the government to effectively and
efficiently exploit its resources in accordance with a profitable,
beneficial, problem solving, and lucrative plans.
Pakistan is not a poor country but poorly managed country; at this time
Pakistan needs only a sincere leadership with the real commitment of
doing for the nation that can turn this hell in to heaven. At this time
Pakistan need to take difficult decision for the betterment of Pakistan

economy. If consistent and long term policies introduced to fix the

challenges timely than it would not take time to be Asian tiger.
Pakistan cannot afford such mismanagement of the economy any more.
The list of mistakes may not be exhaustive; but allegations of widespread corruption, and bad governance of the highest order are the
greatest sins committed which have damaged image of Pakistan against
other countries. Pakistan needs dedicated leadership that work for the
betterment of economy; and takes the Pakistan at that position which
was dream of Quaid-e-Azam
