Tips for ISC Board Exams :

ISC Mathematics
January 7, 2014 Eduindian education, I.S.CISC
Books to follow :1. Mathematics by O.P.Malhotra
2. M.L.Agarwal and many more (Do take the advice of your teacher in this case)
You must finish atleast one book completely. The problems given in both are nearly same
with a few exceptions. You must solve all questions i,e solved examples as well as exercise
questions from any one of these books. You might be thinking who has the time and patience
to solve so many questions or I am too smart so I dont need to solve these textbooks.
Trust me, when I gave the ISC exam, I realised the worth of solving so many questions. It
gives you the confidence to answer all the questions correctly in those tense 3 hours. You
need to understand that when you will give the ISC exam, you will be under a lot of stress.
Under such conditions, you might commit some errors that would spoil your entire labour.
Therefore, you must prepare yourselves in such a way that by merely looking at the
question, all the concepts related to it flash in your mind immediately.
EXAM PATTERN:The syllabus is divided into three sections A, B and C. Section A is compulsory for all
candidates. Candidates will have a choice of attempting questions from either Section B or
Section C. There will be one paper of three hours duration of 100 marks. Section A (80
marks) will consist of nine questions. Candidates will be required to answer Question 1
(compulsory) and five out of the rest of the eight questions. Section B / C (20 marks)
Candidates will be required to answer two questions out of three from either Section B or
Section C.

HINTS ON THE PAPER :1. Section -A :- Usually the questions are simple here. However silly mistakes might take
away some marks. Closely analyse the previous year question papers and you will find that
those 10 questions usually come from the following topics :
1. Matrices :- Usually a simple question based on the matrix algebra or finding inverse
when a matrix equation is given etc. can come.
2. Indefinite Integration:- simple but tricky

3. Definite Integration:-based on properties

4. Complex nos :- either based on properties of or based on algebra of complex nos, or
questions based on finding locus of complex no satisfying some condition
5. Limits :- Use of LHospitals Rule
6. Inverse trigonometry :- again a simple question using properties..apply the
formulae correctly.
7. Regression of Lines :- the easiest question that has a single working formula bxy * byx
= r2 and r lies between 0 and 1 both included.
8. Differential Equations: A simple variable seperable equation or homogeneous
equation may be given.
9. Probability :- Basic problems
10. Conics :- Using simple formulae on parabola, ellipse and conics
2. Next comes the part where you have to attempt any 5 questions out of the 8 questions.
Again, the usual pairing done in the last few years is as follows :
1.

Determinant + Matrices (one question based on properties of determinants + one

question on martins rule)

2. Inverse Trigo + Boolean Algebra (simplifying a boolean expression and drawing the
equivalent circuit)
3. Mean value theorems + Conics
4. Integral Calculus (Indefinite + Area under curves)
5. Complex Nos + Linear Differential equation (or homogeneous eqn sometimes)
6. Karl Pearson / Spearman rank correlation + regression
7. Probability 2 questions
8. Successive differentiation + Maxima and Minima (geometrical applications )
3. In Section B, one question is based on vectors where having a clear concept of dot product,
cross product, scalar triple product, and proof of sine rule, cosine rule etc is required .
Another question covers straight lines in space and planes. Here only certain type of
questions usually come.
One question is based on binomial distribution and Bayes theorem.
TIPS ON THE PAPER :1. Finish the first question (30 marks ) in 30 35 minutes.
2. In the reading time itself, choose which 5 questions you are going to attempt and which 2
questions you are going to choose in section -B. Choose the topics that you are confident

about. Dont skip steps. If you are not sure about a question and yet you have to answer it,
attempt the question to the best of your knowledge, mention the formula used (if any). Show
all working on the same sheet neatly. You can draw a rough sketch to support your answer. In
the question based on rank correlation, copy the data from the question paper properly and
check the calculations. A silly error in one place will lead to a wrong answer. Attempt Section
-B or C with a similar approach.
If attempted properly, anyone can get 90+ in ISC mathematics.

Ten Useful tips for Achieving Success in ISC 2015 Commerce Exam
by Dr. Alka Tripathi. Posted on March 8, 2015

08 Mar

ISC Board exams are on and the Commerce exam is closely a week away. Here I would like
to share some useful tips that will bring you more confidence and make you well-prepared for
the ISC Commerce Board exam.
1. As you enter your examination hall, Pray to God for 15 seconds to give
you success in the exam.
2. Read the question paper at least twice very carefully.
3. If you find the questions in paper easy try not to be unreasonably
confident and if you find them a bit difficult dont become nervous.
Remember, both the situations will give you a hard time. Being patient
and confident is the key to write great answers.

4. Dont revise anything right before the exam. You should be done with all
your revisions atleast 5 6 hrs before you head to the exam room.
5. Try to attempt the questions as they are given in question paper. They
present you as more confident to the examiner(Try your luck on bonus
marks for this).
If you have to change the sequence, assure correct question numbers.
6. Plan your time to leave few minutes for revision at the end. It is also a
great idea to revise what you have written instead of attempting extra
questions.
7. Dont over write and beat around the bush in Section A of the commerce
paper. Remember, the maximum you can score here is two marks and
sometimes you might end up writing something that is incorrect and risk
full marks.
8. Make sure that answers are organized and well-written. A good
presentation always creates a positive impact.
9. Highlight the keywords in your answer which you think are important and
you want the examiner to notice.

Lastly, make sure you carry your Admit card, Spare Pens, Pencils and
other relevant stationary. Reach the exam hall well in advance to avoid
last minute rush.
