Ethnopedagogy: Developing Literacy Culture in Indonesia

INTRODUCTION
This essay address in ethnopedagogy to apply traditional education
so successfully to prepare the nation for a creative life in Indonesia with
multicultural. There are three things related to ethnopedagogy that local
wisdom, multicultural, and literacy. A discussion of literacy linked into the
particulars ethnopedagogy that can deliver us to the diverse cultures.
Ehtnopedagogy can not be separated from local culture and multicultural,
while language education is closely related to literacy.
The Implementation of Local Wisdom
Local wisdomas potential of education, the teaching of which leads
to the customs of the local people. The application of local wisdom by
teaching the local re-charge area includes language lessons therein.It is able
to revive the spirit and character of the Indonesian nation has multicultural.
According to Alwashilah (2012: 121) local wisdom about the overall culture
contain there are in Indonesia and process knowledge that constitute also
maintained from generation to generation. For example Sundanese language
or manners language learning taught to children of primary school level
because according Alwashilah (2012: 84) mother tongue first mastered
before children a second language or a foreign language.
Indonesia as a country that has a multicultural should be able to
apply the tolerance and the ability to appreciate others (Alwashilah: 2012).
It is application to implement inter-ethnic tolerance, culture, or religion. For
example, people of different faiths can attend the same school regardless of
race, ethnicity, and religion. This means that they maintain tolerance can
already adopted a literate.
Literate attitude can be established early on by implementing good
habits to children by implementing reading and writing early on. But
unfortunately still many Indonesian people who have the attitude literate. As

proof that this nation has literate still marked by growing awareness and
interest of young people in the activities of reading and writing.
Nevertheless, Indonesia still fix itself to become literate.
CONCLUSION
Ethnopedagogy originated from the local language which is applied
as a way to revive the language culture increasingly lost in a foreign
language. Ethnopedagogy requires local wisdom for a multicultural society
like Indonesia so as to create communities that literate. By intensifying
adolescent literate this nation will also become the nation's literate in the
language and culture.
