Statement of Direction
Statement for Oracle BI Customers in Websphere Application Server (WAS) environments
With the release of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Suite, customers have the ability to
deploy the BI environment via the Oracle Weblogic Application Server (WLS). This provides the ability to
deploy and extend the BI installation via the Fusion Middleware framework and architecture. With this
in consideration it is recognized that some customers wish to deploy Oracle BI EE in an environment
where IBM Websphere Application Server (WAS) has been deployed.
1. Deploying Oracle BI EE release 11.1.1.5, (the current release of Oracle BI EE) is not supported
using WAS as the JEE container. You will not be able to install any Oracle BI component into
Websphere Application Server.
2. While Oracle BI does not currently include support for IBM WAS, current plans call for full port
of BI to WAS 7.0.x. This will allow WAS customers to deploy BI into WAS without any necessity
for any WebLogic components.
3. Running BI on WAS may have some additional manual steps in the installation and configuration
procedures, but it is anticipated that all major end-user functionality will be available.
Customers will need to acquire their own WAS license and software at the appropriate revision
level.
a. With the WAS port the Oracle BI end user experience is expected to be the same as with
Oracle WLS
b. Porting to WAS will essentially keep the same functionality for management and
administration via the Fusion Middleware control
c. Security is based on the same OPSS model, but will not have the same security model
coverage as WLS. This is still work in progress
4. Instructions will be provided to enable WAS customers who have current deployments on WLS
to migrate their applications
CONCLUSION
Oracles strategy for Oracle BI technology is clear: Provide compelling technology, tools, and applications
that allow our customers to build and deploy BI applications that are agile while supporting changing
and mission-critical business requirements.
Oracle maintains its commitment to supporting Oracle BI on the broadest spectrum of software and
hardware platforms. It is expected that IBM WAS as well as IBM DB2, AIX and Tivoli Directory Server will
continue to play an important role in this regard and will continue to be supported in our roadmap of
Oracle BI releases.
